Wang Sila Laeng

Wang Sila Laeng sits on the Kuun River in Pua district, where the water runs directly along the Pua Fault Line — the geological fault responsible for the area’s occasional earth tremors. Centuries of flow have cut roughly seven connected pools and channels into the exposed rock over about 400 metres, earning it the local nickname “Grand Canyon of Muang Pua” (locals also call it Wang Bok).

The trail follows the river through this eroded rock corridor, with smooth-sided pools deep enough for a dip carved into the stone at intervals. Moss and small plants cling to the cracks between water-worn grooves, and the sound here is mostly the river itself moving through the channel, with birdsong from the tree line above. It’s a short, flat walk rather than a hike — comfortable shoes with grip matter more than fitness, since the rock can be slick near the water.

Insider Tip: Come March-April. The Kuun River runs low and clear then, and locals swim in the deeper pools. By July-August the rainy season turns the water brown and the current stronger — not the postcard version of the site.

Watch out: Rock near the pools gets slippery when wet, and there’s no lifeguard or barrier — supervise children closely and skip swimming after heavy rain when the current picks up.

Pua district is about 50 km north of Nan town on Route 101, roughly an hour’s drive, with the final stretch to the site itself needing some walking over uneven riverside rock. Bring water and sun protection — shade is limited along most of the trail. Entry is free.
