Wat Hua Dong

Wat Hua Dong dates to 1870 (B.E. 2413), with the formal ordination hall boundary consecrated in 1925 (B.E. 2468) — old by Phichit’s standards, though not one of the province’s marquee royal temples. It sits in Tambon Hua Dong, a short drive from Mueang Phichit, and functions as a working neighbourhood monastery rather than a tourist stop.

The temple’s best-known feature is a small bronze Buddha image, cast in a style similar to the widely revered monk Luang Pu Ngern, which was unearthed at the base of a Bodhi tree on the grounds on 17 February 1995. The find drew local attention at the time and still brings Phichit residents back to pay respects. Beyond that, the grounds hold what you’d expect of a Central Thai village wat: a main prayer hall with Buddha images, shaded pavilions under mature trees, and the everyday rhythm of monks going about chores and chanting.

Insider Tip: Come between 08:00 and 10:00 to catch the morning chanting and cooler temperatures — later in the day there’s little happening beyond the buildings themselves.

Watch out: This is a working temple, not a curated attraction — there’s minimal English signage and no dedicated visitor facilities, so it suits travellers happy to explore independently rather than expecting a guided experience.

Entry is free, and the temple is open daily, roughly 08:00-17:00. Dress modestly — covered shoulders, long trousers — and a small donation toward upkeep is appreciated if you’d like to contribute. Local songthaew cover the route from Phichit town, though your own transport gives more flexibility for the short trip out.
