Wat Pa Si Mahapho Wipatsana

Wat Pa Si Mahapho Wipatsana is a working forest meditation monastery in Ban Si Mahapho Phatthana Thani, Bua Chum subdistrict of Chai Badan district in inland Lop Buri — not a sightseeing temple in the usual sense. It follows the vipassana teaching lineage of Luang Phu Khao, a student of the well-known Lop Buri meditation teacher Luang Phu Kong of Wat Khao Sampoch, and is known locally as a place where Thai and international practitioners sit extended meditation practice, framed around addressing what the tradition calls karmic illness through mindfulness. The grounds are simple rather than ornate: scattered kutis (monks’ huts) set among the trees, an open meditation hall, and modest shrine buildings, without the gilded roofs and elaborate carving of a royal or tourist-facing wat. Part of the practice tradition here involves sleeping outdoors under a klot — the mosquito-net tent Thai forest monks use for open-air meditation — a formal ascetic practice rather than a hardship, and a detail that marks this out as a genuine practice centre rather than a stop built for visitors. Watch out: This is not a heritage site with interpretive signage — there’s no fixed admission process, and turning up expecting a guided look around risks disrupting monks and lay practitioners mid-practice.
