Wat Tham Porn Sawan sits inside a limestone hill in Lam Phayon subdistrict, Tak Fa district, Nakhon Sawan province. Phra Khru Nimit Sitthi Karn, remembered locally as Luang Pho Pae, came across the cave while travelling through the area in 1963 and founded the temple here. Villagers at the time avoided the cave — it was overgrown, dark, and known for bats and other wildlife — but he judged it suitable for meditation, and the community helped clear and improve the entrance.

That history explains what the cave looks like today. It’s divided into two connected chambers: a smaller entrance room and a larger main chamber holding several Buddha images, an artificial waterfall, and a small pool built into the concrete floor. Electric lighting runs throughout, and the space stays cool and dry rather than damp or wild — the bats that once lived here are long gone, cleared out when the cave was developed for worship. Luang Pho Pae’s relics are enshrined inside and draw a steady stream of Thai visitors paying respects, more than the cave’s geology does on its own.

Outside, a modern three-storey sala (assembly hall) stands at the base of the hill, with additional Buddha statues placed along the approach. The overall feel is closer to a maintained shrine complex than an adventure cave — there’s no scrambling over rock or ducking through unlit passages, which makes it an easy stop regardless of mobility or cave experience.
