Tubing Chiang Mai runs this full day out of its own base camp at Kuet Chang in Mae Taeng district, about 1.5 hours north of Chiang Mai. It’s a mix of a proper hike and a lazy afternoon on the river, and it fills 10 to 11 hours door to door.

After pickup, a safety briefing and a change of clothes (lockers provided), you trek for around three hours along a stream through forest and bamboo, past jungle pools, to Tard Mok Waterfall. Lunch is cooked at the base camp. In the afternoon you tube down the Mae Taeng River for about 90 minutes, past a stretch where elephants and water buffalo sometimes come down to cool off. Sightings aren’t guaranteed: the animals roam freely.

The last activity depends on the option you book. Option 1 is a five-minute walk to Saa Gee Waterfall to slide down the smooth rock into the pools. Option 2 is elephant observation. Either way you finish back at camp with a hot shower, tea and snacks, and drop-off in Chiang Mai is around 18:30 to 19:00.

Pickup, lunch, drinks, tubes, life jackets, a towel, a first-aid-certified English-speaking guide and travel accident insurance are included. Beer at camp costs extra.

Insider Tip: Pack a change of clothes and a dry bag for your phone. You’ll be wet from the tubing onwards.

Watch out: Choose your option at booking. The waterfall slide and elephant observation are separate, and you can’t do both.

Groups take up to 15. The trek needs moderate fitness, and the operator doesn’t recommend it for anyone with a spinal injury.
