Asia Blue Scuba runs this introduction as a full eight-hour day from Koh Phangan, for people who have never dived. It includes two dives at Sail Rock, which the operator calls the best dive site in the area.
The PADI Discover Scuba Diving programme is designed for complete novices. It is not a certification course. You get a light amount of theory and in-water training, then make your two dives at Sail Rock. The operator says the aim is to show you what it takes to explore underwater, and to help you decide whether the PADI Open Water course is next.
Breakfast, lunch, snacks, bottled water, tea, coffee and carbonated drinks are all included, as is all the dive equipment, and the boat has restrooms on board. Resort transfers are free from most locations around the island. Transfers from Thong Nai Pan carry a 400 THB taxi fee each way, and none run from Hat Yuan or Hat Tien. The minimum age is 10, and you need to be in good physical health.
Insider Tip: Staying at Hat Yuan or Hat Tien? Ask Asia Blue where to meet before you book, because there is no transfer from either beach.
Watch out: The operator does not recommend this trip for travellers with spinal injuries, poor cardiovascular health or pregnancy, and it expects a moderate level of fitness. Do not fly within 24 hours of diving.
If you want to leave with a certificate, the same operator runs the three-day Open Water course. This day suits first-timers who want a taste of diving without committing to a course, though it does not give you a certificate.

While not a scuba certification course, the PADI Discover Scuba Diving Program is a quick and easy introduction to what it takes to explore the underwater world. DIVE TRIP The dive trip from the island of Koh Phangan includes 2 dives and takes you to the best dive site in the area, Sail Rock. It is designed to introduce non-divers to the amazing world of scuba diving with a light amount of theory and in-water training. When you first experience scuba diving, you’ll discover excitement and adventure. PREREQUISITE To sign up for PADI Discover Scuba Diving with Asia Blue – Scuba, you must be at least 10 years of age and in good physical health with medical conditions.
