Green D Market runs in Sapphaya, Chainat, on the first Saturday and Sunday of each month from 3pm to 9pm, with entry free. It is built around an old police station building — locally dated to the Rattanakosin era over a century ago — that the Sapphaya community restored and turned into the market’s venue, giving the site a bit more history than a typical evening market.

The market’s defining feature is its foam-free policy: vendors serve food in bamboo tubes, woven baskets, and banana-leaf wrapping instead of styrofoam trays, a stance the community adopted when the market launched in early 2018 and has kept since. It was recognised as one of Thailand’s Green Destinations for this environmental focus. Expect a modest, local-scale market — food stalls selling Chainat specialties, produce from the surrounding riverside farmland, and handmade goods — rather than a sprawling tourist night bazaar.

Insider Tip: Because it only runs one weekend a month, confirm the current month’s dates with the Sapphaya municipal office or its Facebook page before making a special trip — the first-weekend pattern is consistent, but always worth a quick check.

Stalls set up around the old station building and the surrounding lanes, with plastic tables for eating on the spot. Cash is the practical way to pay; small, community-run vendors rarely take cards. Arriving in the earlier part of the 3-9pm window gives a better chance at fresher food before the evening crowd builds.

Sapphaya sits along the Chao Phraya River in Chainat, within reach of the province’s better-known sights, including the Chao Phraya Dam and Chainat Bird Park, both worth combining with a market weekend.
