Hat Ma Ruat is a stretch of coastline in Pattani’s Panare district, known less for swimming and more for the small rock outcrops that stack up and overlap along roughly two kilometres of shore next to Chalalai Beach. A walkway climbs from the sand to a viewpoint on top of the rocky ground. Entry is free, with no set hours.
The rocks and the shore
What sets Hat Ma Ruat apart from the area’s flatter sand beaches is the run of overlapping small rock formations along the water’s edge — the kind of jumbled boulder coastline you don’t get further north on the Gulf side. The walkway up to the viewpoint is the main thing to do here beyond walking the shoreline itself, giving a wider look back along the coast. This is a working stretch of the Deep South coast rather than a resort strip — expect a quiet, local rhythm rather than beach bars or sunbed rows.
Insider Tip: Go for the walkway viewpoint rather than the water. The rocks and the outlook back along the coast are the actual reason to detour out here, not a swimming session.
Facilities and getting there
There’s little in the way of formal facilities at Hat Ma Ruat — no lifeguards, no beachfront development — so bring your own water, sun protection and anything else you need for the visit. The beach sits in Ban Klang subdistrict, reached by car or motorbike along the coast road through Panare district; there’s no public transport running directly to it.
Watch out: Pattani, Yala and Narathiwat have experienced periodic security incidents for decades. Panare’s coast sees regular local and regional visitors without incident, but check current Thai government travel advisories before you go, avoid rural back roads after dark, and keep to the main coast route.

Hat Ma Ruat is one of a handful of Panare-district beaches worth comparing — Hat Talo-Kapo Beach further up the coast has its fleet of painted kolae fishing boats instead of rock scenery. For an inland stop nearby, Pattani Central Mosque is a short drive back toward Pattani town.
