Wasukri Beach and Sai Buri Estuary

หาดวาสุกรี และปากน้ำสายบุรี

Pattani Reviewed Jul 2026
Entry Free

Wasukri Beach runs along Taluban Municipality in Sai Buri district, about 2 km from Sai Buri town and 52 km from central Pattani. The sand is light brown and the shoreline is lined with sea pine and small coconut trees, sloping gently enough for easy wading and beach games rather than serious surf.

The beach carries a stack of older local names. Fishing families first called it Hat Moh De; a later name, Hat Pa Yae, came from the “pa yae” nets residents used to fish here; and Hat Patatimo — roughly “emerging” — described how monsoon waves build up new sandbanks along the shore. Wasukri, the name now in general use, is the most recent layer.

At the northern end of the beach, the Sai Buri River meets the sea. Traditional Ruea Ko Lae boats, painted in the bold patterns typical of the Gulf coast’s Malay-Thai fishing communities, work this estuary alongside smaller local craft — one of the more genuine glimpses of working coastal life in this part of Pattani.

Insider Tip: Time a visit for Sunday, when the Talat Nad Wasukri market trades on the beachfront itself — a mix of food stalls and local goods that gives the beach a different character than a quiet weekday visit.

Seafood restaurants sit in the area just behind the beach, making it a reasonable spot for an evening meal after a walk along the sand. There’s no entry fee and no lifeguard service, so treat swimming conditions the way you would on any unsupervised stretch of coast — check for rip currents and stay close to shore if the sea looks rough.

Sai Buri Old Town and Ban Krachut Beach, both also in Sai Buri district, are easy add-ons to the same trip. For more of the province, see Pattani.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why does this beach have several different names?
Local names accumulated over generations — it was first called Hat Moh De, then Hat Pa Yae after the "pa yae" fishing nets residents used here, then Hat Patatimo (roughly "emerging"), describing how monsoon waves build up new raised sandbanks. Wasukri Beach is the name in current common use.
What's at the Sai Buri Estuary?
The point where the Sai Buri River reaches the sea, at the beach's northern end. Traditional Ruea Ko Lae fishing boats and smaller local boats work the estuary, giving a view of the fishing life the district still runs on.
Is there anywhere to eat nearby?
Yes — seafood restaurants line the area behind the beach, and a Sunday market (Talat Nad Wasukri) sets up on the beachfront itself.
How far is it from Pattani town?
About 52 km from central Pattani, and roughly 2 km from Sai Buri district town — close enough for a short taxi or motorbike ride if you're already staying in Sai Buri.
Is it safe to swim here?
Treat it like any open stretch of Gulf coast — check conditions before going in, watch for rip currents, and swim parallel to shore if caught in one. There's no lifeguard service.
