Lamnam Nan National Park

Lamnam Nan National Park spans roughly 624,468 rai across Uttaradit’s Nam Pat, Tha Pla, and Ban Khok districts and neighbouring Phrae province — a mix of mixed deciduous, dry dipterocarp, dry evergreen, and hill evergreen forest rising to Phu Phaya Pho, the park’s 1,350-metre high point, which forms part of the Phrae-Uttaradit provincial boundary. Gates run the standard DNP hours of 06:00-18:00; entry is 100 THB for foreign adults (50 THB for children) and 20 THB for Thai adults (10 THB for children), plus a 30 THB vehicle fee.

The park’s biggest natural feature on the Uttaradit side is its border with the Sirikit Dam reservoir — a broad, island-dotted stretch of water good for boat trips and general sightseeing rather than whitewater rafting. Inland from the reservoir, Kaeng Nang Phaya cuts a set of rapids through the Nang Phaya stream that keep flowing year-round thanks to the catchment’s steady rainfall, heaviest from May to September. A handful of waterfalls sit within the park boundary too, including Namtok Choeng Thong, plus Namtok Huai Mun and Namtok Doi Pha Mok further into the forest — all fed by the same year-round water source that makes this part of the park green well outside the rainy season.

A small aquarium near the park office displays freshwater species native to the Nan river system, including silver barb — a modest add-on rather than a headline attraction, worth a look if you’re passing through rather than a reason to detour on its own.

Insider Tip: The Uttaradit park office area, off in Pha Lueat sub-district, sits right by Sirikit Dam — pairing the two makes a natural day out, since they share the same access road and reservoir views.

The park runs its own guesthouses and camping grounds, bookable through the DNP accommodation system, and staff can point you toward trailheads for the waterfalls further from the main road. Bring cash for the entrance fee and vehicle charge — card payment isn’t reliably available at the gate — and expect cool, sometimes cold conditions in the December-January dry season given the park’s elevation and forest cover.
