Mae Kasa Hot Springs

Mae Kasa Hot Springs sits in Mae Kasa village at the foot of the mountains dividing Mae Sot from the rest of Tak province, about 15 minutes’ drive north-east of Mae Sot town. The geothermal pools reach 70–80°C — hot enough to cook an egg in around 20 minutes, which remains the main draw. Entry is free and the site opens daily 07:30–17:30.

Two open pools sit at the centre of the springs, one about two metres across, the other around one metre, both with steam rising visibly at ground level. Chicken and quail eggs are sold on-site for cooking; lower them into the water in a net or basket rather than dropping them in loose. Foot-soaking in the cooler runoff channels is the most practical way to enjoy the heat directly — private mineral-bath rooms are available for full-body soaking for a small additional charge. The mild sulphur smell carries across the village but isn’t overpowering.

Watch out: The two main pools are genuinely close to boiling — 70–80°C will scald skin in seconds. Don’t put hands or feet in the open pools; use the cooler runoff channels or a private bath room instead.

Facilities include shower rooms and parking. Weekdays are quiet, with only a scattering of visitors around the pools; weekends bring local families out in numbers and a livelier atmosphere, particularly late morning.

Insider Tip: The free foot-soaking channels get you most of the experience for nothing — save the paid private bath rooms for a cooler day or if you want a proper full-body soak rather than just your feet.

A short distance away, Tham Mae Usu Cave is worth adding to the same trip — a cave of stalactites and stalagmites, though the access trail follows a stream and can flood after heavy rain. Mae Kasa Waterfall, also nearby, makes a third stop if you want to turn the visit into a half-day loop.

From Mae Sot, take Highway 105 towards Mae Ramat for about 13–14 km, turn right at the marked junction and continue roughly 8 km into Mae Kasa village on a fully paved road. View on Google Maps.
