Mae Kasa Waterfall

Mae Kasa Waterfall is a two-tier limestone cascade in Mae Kasa subdistrict, out toward Tak province’s western edge near the Myanmar border, not the Kanchanaburi area several hundred kilometres south that shares a similar jungle-waterfall reputation. The stream feeding the falls is around 5 metres wide, and the water runs clear year-round.

A weir built below the lower tier backs up a swimming pool with a shallow end for children and deeper water nearby for adults. Reaching the upper tier doesn’t require a scramble — the path up is a short, gentle walk rather than a steep climb, which makes this one of the easier multi-level falls to see in full on a casual visit. Forest surrounds both tiers, and the limestone bed keeps the pools clear even after rain.

There’s no entry fee and no facilities — no changing rooms, no food stalls, no lifeguard — so treat it as an undeveloped natural site. Weekdays tend to be quiet; local families use the weir pool on weekends and public holidays.

Insider Tip: Mae Kasa Hot Springs is a few minutes’ drive from the waterfall in the same subdistrict — worth pairing on the same trip since neither site takes long to see.

Watch out: The rocks around both tiers get slippery when wet. Wear shoes with grip rather than flip-flops if you plan to climb to the upper level.

Visit during or just after the rainy season (roughly June through November) for the fullest flow; the falls run thinner but still year-round in the dry months. The site is reachable by car or motorbike from Mae Sot town, on paved local roads rather than a jungle track. Combine it with a stop in Mae Sot itself for the border market and Myanmar-influenced food scene, a short drive away.
