Namtok Cheoeng Ngoeng

Namtok Cheoeng Ngoeng is a small waterfall in Cho Hae subdistrict, Mueang Phrae district — the same subdistrict as Wat Phra That Cho Hae, the revered temple that gives the area its name and sits about 8km from Phrae town. Unlike Phrae’s better-known cascades, Cheoeng Ngoeng has very little independent documentation online: no detailed trail descriptions, verified hike times, or recent visitor reports turn up beyond its catalogue listing with the Tourism Authority of Thailand. Treat it as a minor, off-the-radar stop rather than a planned destination in its own right.

What’s confirmed is the basics: it’s a free, unstaffed forest waterfall open during daylight hours (listed 09:00-16:00), in hilly terrain typical of the Cho Hae area. Like almost every seasonal waterfall in northern Thailand, flow depends heavily on rainfall — expect it running well from June through the end of the rainy season in November, and reduced to a trickle or dry in the hot season from March to May.

Watch out: Because so little is documented about current trail conditions, access, or facilities here, this isn’t a waterfall to plan a special trip around. If you’re already in the Cho Hae area for the temple, it’s worth a detour; if not, Phrae has better-documented waterfalls worth prioritising instead.

Cheoeng Ngoeng sits within Phrae Province, close to Wat Phra That Cho Hae — worth combining the two if you’re exploring Phrae’s Cho Hae side rather than visiting the waterfall on its own.
