Namtok Ka-ang

Namtok Ka-ang is a quiet, mid-sized waterfall in Tambon Si Ka-ang, Ban Na district, on the Nakhon Nayok side of the Khao Yai National Park area. It’s free to visit, open daily 08:00-17:00, and sees a fraction of the crowds that head to Khao Yai’s main gated entrance and headline trails further north.

The name has a story behind it: the site was once called “Nam Tok Ngu Chong Ang” — king cobra waterfall — after the snakes that were said to live in the surrounding overgrown forest. Once a proper road made the area accessible, the name was shortened to Ka-ang and the wilder reputation faded along with the underbrush that used to hide it.

Ka-ang is a modest cascade rather than a multi-tier trekking destination — a single drop into a pool suitable for wading and cooling off, set among forest that still feels genuinely rural. The site has no restaurant or shop, but bamboo hammocks and platforms strung over the water can be rented for around 100 THB, a popular way locals spend an afternoon here. Toilets are available but that’s about the extent of the infrastructure.

Insider Tip: Suan Kaiwa, a well-known tent-camping ground, sits close by — pairing the two makes for a fuller half-day out if you want more than just the waterfall stop.

Watch out: Rocks around the pool are uneven and can be slippery when wet, and there’s no lifeguard on duty, so keep young swimmers within reach.

Flow is best during and just after the rainy season, roughly June through October; by the dry season the pool shrinks and the drop slows to a trickle. It’s reachable by car or motorbike from Ban Na district town, with parking near the site — this isn’t a spot served by public transport. For other Nakhon Nayok waterfalls with a similar unhurried feel, Namtok Sarika and Wang Takhrai are both a short drive away in Nakhon Nayok, and both sit within the wider Khao Yai foothills.
