Namtok Lan Rak

Namtok Lan Rak, also signed as Namtok Tat Hin Kong, is a wide rock-shelf waterfall in Sarika subdistrict, Nakhon Nayok. Rather than dropping over a single cliff, the stream sheets down a long, gently sloping stone platform in stages. It’s free to enter and sits outside Khao Yai National Park’s fee-gated boundary, though it’s reached off the same road that leads to the park’s better-known Sarika and Nang Rong waterfalls.

The falls only run in the rainy season, roughly July through October, fed by runoff from the Khao Yai hills above. Outside those months the platform is largely dry stone rather than moving water, so timing matters here more than at waterfalls fed by a permanent spring.

The “Love Waterfall” name is often over-explained as two separate cascades for couples to stand beneath — that’s not accurate. It’s one wide flow of water broken into stages by the rock shelf, and it picked up the “Lan Rak” nickname because the flat, shaded platforms around the falls became a popular spot for couples to sit and cool off, not because of any twin-falls feature.

A short walk from the parking area brings you to the falls themselves — reached via a dirt-road turnoff a few kilometres off the main Sarika-Nang Rong route. Dense greenery surrounds the platform, with dragonflies and butterflies common around the shallower pools when the water’s running. There are food stalls and restrooms near the car park, plus a few homestays in the area for anyone stringing this together with Sarika or Nang Rong into a longer day out.

Insider Tip: Aim for a visit a few days after heavy monsoon rain, roughly August or September, for the fullest flow. Show up in the dry season and you may find little more than damp rock.

Watch out: Don’t confuse this with the fee-charging Sarika or Nang Rong waterfalls further up the same road, both inside Khao Yai National Park’s boundary. Lan Rak itself is free and outside the park gate — check which waterfall you’re actually headed for before you set off.
