Namtok Lan Mom Chui

Namtok Lan Mom Chui — also called Namtok Tamot locally — is a low, multi-tiered waterfall inside the Ban Tamot wildlife protection unit in Phatthalung’s Tamot district. Entry is free, open 08:30–16:30 daily, and the modest height of each drop makes it one of the more family-friendly falls in the province.

Rather than one tall cascade, the water steps down through several short tiers over a boulder-strewn streambed, with a few pools shallow enough for children to wade in safely. The site sits within the Banthat mountain range, whose forest here is classified as moist evergreen — the same range that includes Khao Hin Thaen, its highest peak. Facilities on site have historically hosted school camping trips and seminars for visiting groups, alongside day-trippers who come mainly for the shallow swimming spots rather than any single dramatic drop.

The falls draw a modest, mostly local crowd rather than tour buses — weekday visits in particular tend to be quiet. Because none of the tiers run especially high or fast, this isn’t the waterfall to pick if you want a dramatic single cascade; it’s better suited to an easy family outing than a serious hike. Khao Pu-Khao Ya National Park and Namtok Phraiwan, also in Phatthalung’s stretch of the Banthat range, are worth combining with a visit here if you want more elevation or a longer trail.

Visit during or just after rainy season (roughly May–November) when the tiers carry the most water; by the dry months the flow thins out noticeably. From Tamot town, follow Highway 4121 onto Highway 4237 toward Wat Tamot for about 18km, then continue a further 4–5km past the temple to reach the falls.

Insider Tip: This is a better pick for families with small children than most of Phatthalung’s other waterfalls — the shallow, low-tier pools are easier to supervise than a single deep plunge pool.

Watch out: the access road narrows to rural lanes past Wat Tamot, and phone signal thins out in the surrounding forest — download offline maps before you leave town.
