Namtok Wang Muang

Namtok Wang Muang is a free public waterfall in Pak Phli district, Nakhon Nayok — in the broader Khao Yai region but outside the national park’s paid boundary. It shares its subdistrict, Na Hin Lat, with Haew Narok, one of the park’s signature ticketed waterfalls, but Wang Muang itself sits outside the fee gate, which is the practical reason it costs nothing to visit while its more famous neighbour charges a 400 THB foreigner entrance fee.

The falls drop in tiers over rock, forming pools at the base that locals and visitors use for cooling off, particularly during and just after the rainy season from July to November. Flow depends heavily on recent rainfall — expect a strong cascade after monsoon downpours and a much thinner trickle in the dry months of February to May. Watch out: rocks around the pools get slick when wet, and there are no lifeguards or facilities, so treat it as an unsupervised swim spot rather than a managed attraction.

Because it isn’t inside the national park, Wang Muang doesn’t come with a visitor centre, marked trail network, or park rangers — it’s a low-key, self-guided stop rather than a hiking destination. That also means far fewer crowds than the ticketed falls inside Khao Yai proper, especially on weekdays. The Pak Phli area has a scatter of other free water features on the same theme, including Wang Bon Reservoir a short drive away, so a day trip out here tends to be a loop of small, uncrowded stops rather than a single-destination visit the way a trip inside the national park usually is.

Insider Tip: If you’re combining a Khao Yai trip with this waterfall, plan Wang Muang as a free add-on rather than a substitute for the park itself — it’s a pleasant cooling-off stop, not a comparable experience to Haew Narok or Heo Suwat inside the NP boundary.
