Phrom Lok Waterfall

Phrom Lok Waterfall is a multi-tiered cascade inside Khao Luang National Park, in Phrom Khiri district, Nakhon Si Thammarat. Of its roughly 50 levels, four are open to visitors. Entry costs the standard Khao Luang National Park fee — 200 THB for foreign adults, 40 THB for Thai adults — and it’s open daily from 08:00 to 16:30.

Experience

The four accessible tiers — Nan Wang Nam Won, Nam Wang Mai Pak, Nan Wang Hua Bua, and Nan Wang Ai Le — range from shallow pools suited to wading and relaxing near the base to higher cascades further up the trail. On 15 March 1959, King Bhumibol Adulyadej and Queen Sirikit visited the falls and had their royal monogram inscribed into the cliff face at the first level, Nan Wang Nam Won — it’s still visible today. A roughly 600-metre nature study trail, taking about 45-60 minutes round trip, runs through rainforest thick with ferns, moss, and wild orchids, and the watershed here is a significant water source for Nakhon Si Thammarat province.

Atmosphere & Timing

Water flow shifts sharply with the seasons: strongest from September to November after the rainy season, and often reduced to a trickle by the hot season peak in March and April. The forest canopy keeps the trail shaded for most of its length, but the path can turn muddy and uneven during the rains. Wildlife along the route includes birds and reptiles that favour the damp, shaded stream corridor.

Insider Tip: Nan Wang Nam Won, the lowest tier, is the easiest to reach and holds the royal inscription — worth the short walk even if you don’t continue up to the higher levels.

Watch out: Rocks around the pools get slick, and currents strengthen quickly during and just after rain. Check conditions with park staff before swimming, especially outside the dry season.

Phrom Lok Waterfall is located at Phrom Khiri, within the Ban Khiri Wong area of Khao Luang National Park, a short distance from Ai Khiao Waterfall in the same park. View on Google Maps. Bring a towel and dry clothes if you plan to swim, and carry out anything you bring in — there’s no litter collection on the trail.
