Sai Yok Noi Waterfall

Sai Yok Noi is a small, single-tier limestone waterfall right on Highway 323 at the 46 km marker, in Tha Sao subdistrict — not the larger Sai Yok Yai waterfall deeper inside Sai Yok National Park, which is a separate, fee-charging site about 20 km further down the same road. Locals also call it Namtok Khao Pang (“crumbled-mountain waterfall”), after the eroded limestone cliff — about 15 metres high — that the water drops over into a shallow pool. Entry is free.

The falls sit a five-minute walk uphill from free roadside parking, with restaurants and souvenir shops across the highway. A retired steam locomotive is displayed near the site, a reminder that this stretch of road runs alongside the old Death Railway: the rail line from Kanchanaburi terminates 2 km away at Nam Tok station, named for this very waterfall, and weekend tourist trains still run the route. Flow is strongest from June to November; in the hot season the same limestone shelf can be reduced to a trickle, so this is a rainy-season stop first and a scenic drive-by the rest of the year.

Insider Tip: Combine it with a Death Railway day trip — take the train from Kanchanaburi to Nam Tok, walk or catch local transport the 2 km to the falls, then bus back. It turns a 15-minute waterfall stop into a half-day out that also covers the railway history.

The shallow basin at the bottom is popular with families for wading rather than serious swimming, and the site gets busy with day-trippers and tour buses on Thai public holidays. On an ordinary weekday it’s a quiet 20-30 minute stop rather than a destination in its own right.

Watch out: Don’t confuse this with Sai Yok Yai or Sai Yok National Park when booking a tour or checking fees — Sai Yok Noi is free and roadside, while the national park entrance 20 km on charges 300 THB for foreign visitors. Swimming and bathing with soap is not allowed in the pool.

Reach it by car or motorbike from Kanchanaburi town along Highway 323, or by the State Railway to Nam Tok station. Don’t continue on toward the fee-charging Sai Yok National Park entrance and Namtok Sai Yok Yai expecting the same free access — that’s a separate site further up the road.
