Samor Thong Hot Spring
น้ำพุร้อนสมอทอง
Samor Thong Hot Spring rises in the Huai Khot district of Uthai Thani, in the west of the province near the Huai Kha Khaeng Wildlife Sanctuary. It is a community hot spring rather than a commercial spa — a cluster of small sulphur springs set, unusually, in the middle of the Huai Khun Kaeo reservoir, so warm mineral water and cool stream sit side by side rather than the spring being piped into a separate pool.
The water is clear and carries the distinct sulphur smell of a natural spring. On site there are simple soaking pools, separate mineral foot baths that are popular at weekends, basic changing facilities and shaded pavilions, along with a tall seated Buddha image overlooking the area. It is a local leisure spot kept for soaking and a quiet sit rather than a developed wellness resort — no spa menu, no treatment rooms, just warm water and a bench in the shade.
Insider Tip: Go on a weekday morning if you want the pools to yourself. Weekends bring local families who come to bathe and picnic, and by midday the foot baths fill up fast.
There are bungalows to rent and a small restaurant on site, but the setting stays rural and low-key, with the reservoir and surrounding forest as the backdrop rather than manicured grounds. It works well as a stop between the caves and waterfalls of western Uthai Thani rather than a destination on its own — most visitors combine it with a wider loop through Huai Khot and Lan Sak districts.
Samor Thong is reached by road through Huai Khot district, easiest with your own vehicle since public transport this far west is sparse. It is open daily 08:00–17:00 at no charge. Bring a towel, a change of clothes and flip-flops for the wet areas, plus drinking water and snacks, as shops nearby are limited.
Watch out: The mineral water stains light-coloured swimwear and towels over time — bring older gear you don’t mind discolouring slightly.
