Thapae Boxing Stadium is the Muay Thai ring in Chiang Mai’s Old City, on Mun Mueang Road right beside Tha Phae Gate. Its Facebook page, Instagram bio and Google-listed ticket website all advertise cards from Monday to Saturday, with doors around 20:00 and the first bout at about 21:00. It is the easiest fight night in the city because you can walk to it from most Old City hotels, and tickets are sold in three tiers: standard, ringside and VIP.

It is not the only ring in town. Chiang Mai also has smaller stadiums further out and a circuit of gyms that supply fighters, so if you want to train rather than watch, start with our guide to Muay Thai in Chiang Mai. For a comparison with the big Bangkok and Phuket venues, see where to watch Muay Thai fights in Thailand.

What a night is like

Listings describe a card of several bouts, and sources put it anywhere from six to ten, so treat the count as a rough guide. Each fight opens with the wai khru ram muay, the ritual dance in which fighters pay respect to their teachers, then the bout. Sellers say the fighters come from local gyms, and one description mentions both male and female fighters. The stadium’s own Facebook page promotes the evenings as Muay Thai Super Fights.

The ring sits under a roof with open sides, and photos on ticket listings show ceiling fans and signage along the stands. Sellers mention air-conditioning only for the VIP room. One ticket seller says you can go ringside after the bouts to take photos with fighters, so ask when you buy if that matters to you. A seller’s description mentions food stalls around the stadium, and a drink and snack in hand is part of the evening for most people.

Seat tiers and tickets

There are three tiers. Standard seats are the back zone and the cheapest. Ringside seats are the front zone, nearest the ropes. VIP seats are in an air-conditioned room with a sofa and one small drink included. In October 2026 listings on Trip.com the standard seat started around 430 THB and VIP around 1,100 THB, and the ticket website on its Google profile has shown other numbers, so compare sellers and check current rates.

Tickets are sold through that ticket website and booking platforms such as Viator and Trip.com. We list the Viator options on this page. Read the voucher: some are e-tickets you exchange at the stadium, some ask you to confirm with the seller first, and cancellation rules are set by the seller, not the stadium.

Insider Tip: Go early enough to sit down and pick your angle before the first bout at about 21:00. Doors are around 20:00, and the ring is small enough that even standard seats see well.

Watch out: Reviews of the stadium are mixed, with Tripadvisor around 3.5 out of 5 and Google around 3.8 in October 2026. It is a laid-back local-gym card, not a polished broadcast show, so set your expectations accordingly.

Getting there

The stadium is on Mun Mueang Road at Tha Phae Gate, the brick gate on the east side of the Old City moat. Walk from nearly any Old City guesthouse, or take a songthaew (shared red truck taxi) or Grab to the gate and ask for the stadium by name. If you are staying outside the moat, around Chang Khlan, expect a short ride.

Afterwards, Chiang Mai Night Bazaar is a short walk or ride away for late food, and on Sunday, when there is no fight card, the Sunday Walking Street starts at Tha Phae Gate and runs west toward Wat Phra Singh. For the wider area see Chiang Mai.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where is Thapae Boxing Stadium?
On Mun Mueang Road in Chiang Mai's Old City, beside Tha Phae Gate at the east side of the moat. The address is 1 Mun Mueang Road, Phra Sing, and one seller's voucher says it is in front of the gate and next to the Top North Hotel. From most Old City guesthouses it is a short walk.
Which nights are there fights at Thapae Boxing Stadium?
The stadium's own channels and its ticket sellers all say Monday to Saturday, with Sunday closed. One older social media post described a different pattern (Monday, Thursday and Saturday), so confirm the date you want with the stadium or your ticket seller before you plan the evening around it.
What time do the fights start at Thapae Boxing Stadium?
Doors are around 20:00 and the first bout is at about 21:00 on ticket listings. The stadium's Facebook page says the show starts at 21:15, and Trip.com lists 21:00 to 23:45. Allow for a finish between 23:45 and midnight, since sellers note that real bouts can run longer or shorter. Confirm the start for your date.
How much are tickets for Thapae Boxing Stadium?
There are three tiers, standard, ringside and VIP. In October 2026 on Trip.com the standard seat started around 430 THB and VIP around 1,100 THB, with ringside in between. The ticket website on the stadium's Google profile showed different numbers a year earlier, so prices move by seller and date. Check current rates before you buy.
What do the standard, ringside and VIP seats get you?
Standard seats are the back zone, ringside seats are the front zone close to the ropes, and VIP seats are in an air-conditioned room with a sofa and one small drink included, according to that ticket website and two sellers. The rest of the arena is not air-conditioned, so expect fans and warm evenings from March to May.
Is Thapae Boxing Stadium worth it?
Reviews are mixed. In October 2026 Tripadvisor showed about 3.5 out of 5 from around 200 reviews, and Google about 3.8 from around 430. Trip.com buyers rated it higher at about 4.5. Go for a casual Old City night and an easy walk-in ring, not for the top-ranked fighters you would see at Rajadamnern in Bangkok.
Can children go?
Two ticket sellers say children under 90 cm are free if they share a parent's seat, and older children need their own ticket. Matches are real, with knockouts possible, so decide whether your child is comfortable with that. Confirm the child rule on the ticket you buy.
Is there a Sunday fight night in Chiang Mai?
Not at Thapae, according to the stadium's own schedule. Sunday is the night of the Sunday Walking Street market, which starts at Tha Phae Gate a few steps from the stadium, so many visitors swap the fights for the market that evening.
