Thep Prathan Waterfall
น้ำตกเทพประทาน
Thep Prathan Waterfall sits in Thep Sathit district, Chaiyaphum, about 7km before the entrance to Pa Hin Ngam National Park — outside the park’s ticketed boundary, so entry is free. Rather than one dramatic drop, the water spreads across wide rock terraces that descend in shallow steps roughly 3-5 metres high overall, feeding a series of pools at the base. It’s open daily from 08:00 to 17:00.
The name Thep Prathan roughly translates as “bestowed by the gods” — a nod to the site rather than a claim about its spiritual status. Large flat boulders form the main terraces, with smaller channels and pools cutting through the rock on either side, and forest cover on both banks keeps the site shaded for most of the day. Water flow depends heavily on rainfall: during the rainy season (June-October) the whole terrace runs, while the dry season leaves only a thin trickle over bare rock.
Watch out: the exposed rock terraces get slippery when wet, and there are no barriers or lifeguards — take care on the lower steps, especially with children. There’s also no shop or food stall on site, so bring your own water.
A near-namesake sits in the same subdistrict: Thep Phana Waterfall, a distinct three-tier cascade also on the road to Pa Hin Ngam. The two get confused because of their similar names and shared location — worth checking which one you’re aiming for before you set off.
Insider Tip: Combine the visit with Pa Hin Ngam National Park itself, a short drive further on — its rock-garden landscape and seasonal wildflower meadows are the area’s main draw, with Thep Prathan as a free stop on the way.
