This full-day trip from Hua Hin visits a wildlife rescue centre, elephant refuge and wildlife hospital with Wildlife Rescue Center Tours. The operator calls it Asia’s biggest, and says the foundation cares for hundreds of rescued animals. The day takes six to seven hours, and groups are listed at up to 27 people.

Pickup is between 8:00 and 8:30 AM from your hotel, home, Airbnb or guesthouse, and transport is included. The first stop is about three hours at the rescue centre, the elephant refuge and the hospital, where you learn about the foundation’s work. Next comes roughly two hours behind the scenes at the big cat rescue, home to tigers, leopards, fishing cats and other wild cats that were saved from illegal trade or brought in injured. The last hour is a buffet lunch overlooking the elephant refuge.

Lunch, all fees and taxes, and an air-conditioned vehicle are included. Alcoholic drinks and souvenirs are not. Service animals are allowed, and specialised infant seats are available. Everything is listed as suitable for all fitness levels.

Insider Tip: Wear closed shoes, bring a hat and carry your own water bottle for the walking stretches. The operator does not describe the paths, so plan for outdoor heat.

Watch out: This is a rescue centre, not a zoo, and the animals are there because they were rescued. The operator describes the elephant contact as responsible and non-exploitative, but does not say how close you can get, so keep expectations flexible.

It suits travellers who want an animal day without elephant riding. For wild elephants rather than rescued ones, the Kui Buri private safari is the other wildlife option out of Hua Hin.
