Siri Sala Villa is a six-bedroom private villa in Bangkok Noi, on the Thonburi bank of the Chao Phraya, made of three traditional Thai houses (ruen) set around gardens and a 20-metre saltwater pool. It sleeps 12, comes with a chef and staff, and has its own pier on Khlong Bangkok Noi. It’s a city stay that feels nothing like a hotel tower.

Stilt houses on a canal

The houses are wooden stilt buildings made with upcycled timber, each bedroom raised a floor above the garden. Every room has its own bathroom and a semi-outdoor sitting area: two face the canal (Ruen Bangkok Noi and Ruen Hor, 48 sqm each, king beds), two look over the garden toward the river with two double beds each, and two have twin beds that push together. Ruen Siri Rudee, the largest at 67 sqm, sits at ground level with a private garden and an outdoor bathtub. A heritage house holds the library and the Heritage Bar, stocked with Thai spirits that come with the rental.

The team (villa manager, housekeeper, chef and a 24-hour security guard) cooks breakfast every morning and a Thai dinner on the first night. Herbs from the garden go into the cooking.

Insider Tip: Choose the alms-giving as your included activity and book it seven days out. Of the three options it’s the one you can’t easily arrange on your own, and the massage is easy to book anywhere in the city.

Who it suits

Pros
  • A private pool and garden in central Bangkok
  • Breakfast, a welcome dinner and a cultural activity included
  • Canal pier for boat trips to the old city
  • Staffed around the clock
Cons
  • Five bedrooms are up a flight of 20 steps
  • Thonburi side, so Sukhumvit malls and nightlife are a long taxi ride
  • About 40 km from the airport

It’s built for a family reunion or a group who want Bangkok’s temples without a hotel lobby. The National Museum of Royal Barges is a short walk, Wang Lang Market and the Siriraj Medical Museum are close by, and Wat Arun and the Grand Palace are a boat or taxi hop away. Frequently Asked Questions

Where in Bangkok is Siri Sala Villa?
On the Thonburi side of the river in Bangkok Noi, on the bank of Khlong Bangkok Noi. The Royal Barges museum is about 1 km away and the Grand Palace is across the Chao Phraya. The villa has its own canal pier, so you can travel by boat as well as by road.
How many people does Siri Sala Villa sleep?
Twelve adults in six bedrooms, each with its own bathroom. Four extra single beds for young children can go into four of the rooms.
What comes with the rental?
Daily breakfast, one Thai welcome dinner, and one in-house activity for the group, chosen from lotus-flower folding, a one-hour Thai or aromatherapy massage per guest, or an alms-giving with monks. Book the activity seven days ahead. The minibar, laundry for up to four pieces per room each night and the Heritage Bar's local spirits are also included.
Is Siri Sala Villa suitable for older guests or anyone with limited mobility?
Only partly. Five of the six bedrooms are up 20 steps in wooden stilt houses. Ruen Siri Rudee is the exception, on the ground floor with its own garden, so give it to whoever finds stairs hard.
