Koh Phangan Saturday Walking Street
ถนนคนเดินวันเสาร์ (เกาะพะงัน)
Every Saturday, Thong Sala’s Chinese Street — the one with the post office, a short walk from Thong Sala Pier — closes to traffic and fills with food stalls, craft vendors, and shoppers from about 16:00 to 22:00. Locally this is also known as Thong Sala Night Market or, on some map apps, Pantip Market. It’s a weekly market, not Koh Phangan’s famous monthly beach party — the Full Moon Party happens at Haad Rin, on the other side of the island, and draws a very different crowd.
Food is the main draw: stalls selling som tam (spicy papaya salad), pad thai cooked to order, and grilled or barbecued fish and squid line the street, alongside vendors doing a steady trade in other Thai street-food staples. Between the food stalls, craft and clothing vendors set up alongside sellers of jewellery, souvenirs, and other handmade goods — the kind of mixed market you’d find in any sizeable Thai town on its weekly market night, just with a higher share of foreign residents and visitors in the crowd.
The atmosphere leans toward locals and long-stay visitors more than the party-focused end of Koh Phangan’s tourist scene — families doing their weekly shopping, digital nomads grabbing dinner, and travellers looking for something other than a beach bar. It builds gradually through the evening rather than peaking sharply, which makes it an easy stop whether you arrive right at opening or wander down after dark.
Insider Tip: Go early — by 17:00 rather than 19:00 — if you want first pick of the food stalls with the shortest queues; the most popular vendors sell out of their best dishes well before the market winds down at 22:00.
The market is walkable from most Thong Sala accommodation, and easy to reach by motorbike taxi from elsewhere on the island. There’s no cover charge or ticket — it’s an open street market — so budgeting comes down to what you eat and buy rather than an entry fee.
