Pam Bok Waterfall

Pam Bok Waterfall drops through a narrow, shaded gorge about 8 kilometres southwest of Pai — a rough side-road ride by scooter, roughly 15-20 minutes from town. A 200 THB entrance ticket gets you in, covering the same day pass used across the wider Lum Nam Pai wildlife sanctuary, which also includes Pai’s hot springs.

What’s there

From the car park, a short footpath — around 150 metres — leads in past thick jungle growth to the falls, easy underfoot but shaded enough to feel a few degrees cooler than the road. The waterfall itself is tall and narrow, spilling from a shadowed limestone cliff into a pool deep enough to swim in. High gorge walls keep the whole spot in cool shade for most of the day. A rock ledge above the pool is a popular jumping spot — check the water depth yourself before you go in, since levels shift with the season and there’s no lifeguard.

Pam Bok sits near Pai Land Split, the earthquake-formed fissure that opened up nearby in 2008, so the two make an easy combined stop if you’re already out that way. It’s noticeably quieter than Mo Paeng Waterfall, the more visited multi-tier falls north of town — Mo Paeng has natural rock slides and bigger crowds, while Pam Bok is a smaller, more secluded gorge.

Insider Tip: The 200 THB ticket also covers Tha Pai Hot Spring — worth combining the two if you’re doing a loop south of Pai in one day.

Watch out: The access road is rough and better suited to riders with some scooter experience. In the dry season (roughly February-May) the flow can drop to a trickle, so check recent conditions before making the trip if you’re visiting outside the rains.

Practical

Bring water shoes with grip — the rocks around the pool get slippery — and carry out anything you bring in. The nearest amenities are back in Pai town itself; there’s no shop at the falls.
