Phantip Night Food Market

Phantip Night Food Market is the main night market in Thong Sala, Koh Phangan’s port town — the island’s best-value place to eat. It runs daily, coming alive in the evening and busiest between about 7pm and 9pm, with most stalls open until around 10pm. Entry is free, a full meal runs 40–150 THB, and it’s cash only. Also spelled Pantip, and often just called the Thong Sala Night Market.

What to eat

Rows of stalls cover the full range of Thai street food — pad thai and fried rice, red and green curries over rice, grilled satay skewers, whole grilled fish and spicy seafood salads, som tam pounded to order, mango sticky rice and fresh roti. Because it feeds the island’s residents, not just tourists, portions are generous and prices are low. There are international stalls mixed in too, and communal plastic tables to sit at once you’ve assembled a spread.

Insider Tip: Treat it as a graze, not a meal — buy one thing from several stalls rather than a big plate from one. Bring small notes; few vendors have change for large bills and none take cards.

When and where

It’s in the middle of Thong Sala, just off the main road near the ferry pier, so it’s within walking distance of most of the town and an easy stop on your way to or from the boats. Stalls trickle open through the afternoon, but the full range is out from around 5pm; the peak crowd and best atmosphere is 7–9pm.

Watch out: It’s a working local market — busy, warm and not polished. That’s the appeal, but don’t expect much English at the stalls; pointing works fine.
