Phang Nga Reviewed Jul 2026
Entry Walk-up conservation fee: 30, Shuttle round trip (incl. entry): 90

This hilltop viewpoint looks out over Phang Nga Bay’s limestone karsts and mangrove channels from the mainland side, in Takua Thung district — not from Koh Yao Noi or Koh Yao Yai, the islands visible out in the bay itself. It’s privately run, opened to visitors around 2016, and reaching the actual viewing platforms means leaving your car at the bottom and either walking up (30 THB conservation fee) or taking the site’s pickup-truck shuttle (90 THB return, entry included) — the incline is steep enough that private vehicles aren’t allowed past the car park.

There are two viewing spots on the hill, roughly 800 metres apart by path. The first, a short walk from the car park, sits beside a boutique lodge and campsite; walk on another few hundred metres and you reach the second, higher spot near a resort that also rents bungalows and camping pitches. Both look out over the same scene — still water, jagged grey-green karst islands, and mangrove forest threading between them — but the upper spot is generally rated the better vantage point for photos.

Sunrise is the reason most people make the trip. Arrive before first light and you can watch fishing boats head out from the mangroves as the sky over the bay turns from grey to gold, the karsts silhouetted against it. It’s one of the most photographed sunrise spots in Phang Nga, which means the small viewing platforms fill up fast on clear mornings — arriving even 15 minutes late can mean shooting over someone’s shoulder.

Key Facts:
  • Walk-up conservation fee: 30 THB; shuttle round trip (includes entry): 90 THB
  • Private vehicles stop at the bottom car park — no driving to the top
  • Two viewpoints on the hill, about 800 m apart by path
  • Camping and bungalow accommodation available at both viewpoint properties
  • On the Phang Nga mainland (Takua Thung district), not on Koh Yao Noi

Insider Tip: Staying overnight at one of the on-site lodges is the easiest way to catch sunrise — you skip the 5 AM drive from Phuket or Phang Nga town and just walk up in the dark, well ahead of the day-trip crowds.

Watch out: This is a genuinely steep hill in a tropical climate — wear proper shoes, not sandals, and carry water even for the shorter first-viewpoint walk. Getting there from Phuket means crossing the Sarasin Bridge onto the mainland and continuing north through Phang Nga province toward Takua Thung, roughly an hour’s drive depending on traffic through Phang Nga town.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Samet Nangshe viewpoint on Koh Yao Noi island?
No. It sits on the Phang Nga mainland, in Khlong Khian subdistrict, Takua Thung district — looking out across Phang Nga Bay toward Koh Yao Noi and Koh Yao Yai rather than sitting on either island.
How much does it cost to visit Samet Nangshe?
Walking up yourself costs a 30 THB conservation fee. Taking the site's own pickup-truck shuttle, which is required if you're not walking, costs 90 THB round trip and includes the entry fee.
Can I drive my own car or scooter up to the viewpoint?
No. Private vehicles park at the bottom car park — the final stretch up the hill is only accessible on foot or via the site's pickup-truck shuttle.
What time should I arrive for sunrise?
Aim to be at the top before first light — the walk or shuttle ride adds 15-20 minutes on top of the drive, and the viewpoint gets busy fast once the sky starts to colour.
Can you stay overnight at Samet Nangshe?
Yes. Both viewpoint properties — a boutique lodge near the lower spot and a resort near the upper one — offer camping and bungalow rooms, which is the easiest way to be in place for sunrise without a pre-dawn drive.
