To Ku Chae Bridge Viewpoint

To Ku Chae is a highway bridge on Route 410, the main road between Yala town and Betong, crossing an arm of a forest reservoir in Than To district. At about 264 metres long, the bridge itself cut roughly 9.5km and 30 minutes off the old route around the water. There’s no entry fee and no set hours — it’s a public road, and the “viewpoint” is a roadside pull-off rather than a ticketed site.

What draws people to stop is the water framed by Hala-Bala forest on both sides — a wide, still reservoir surrounded by dense green hills, with the bridge cutting a clean line across it. It’s become a known photo stop on the Yala-Betong drive, promoted by Thailand’s tourism authority as a marker of the road into the country’s southernmost stretch. There’s no dedicated walking path or observation deck; visitors pull off where the shoulder widens near the bridge and photograph the reservoir from the roadside.

Insider Tip: Late afternoon light works best here, when the sun sits low enough to catch the water without the midday glare. Weekday mornings are quietest if you want the pull-off without other cars parked along it.

Facilities are non-existent at the bridge itself — no toilets, no food stalls — so treat it as a stop within a longer drive rather than a standalone outing. The surrounding stretch of Highway 410 runs through forest reserve with limited mobile signal in places, so plan fuel and water before setting off from Yala town or Betong.

It sits along the same route as Bang Lang Dam, the reservoir’s source dam further along Highway 410, and makes sense as one stop on a wider day trip through Yala toward Betong.
