Muay Thai Phuket: Tiger, AKA and 6 More Gyms (2026)

By Thai Holiday Guide Editorial·12 min read·Updated 8 October 2026·✓ Facts checked Oct 2026

Eight Phuket Muay Thai gyms compared: Tiger on Soi Taied, AKA in Rawai, Phuket King and Sumalee. Addresses, class times, 2026 rates and booking links.

Phuket has gyms in every corner of the island, and they are not all in one place. The big names cluster on Soi Taied in Chalong, but gyms also sit in Rawai, Kata, Kathu and on the quieter east coast. This page compares eight of them: Tiger Muay Thai, AKA Thailand, Phuket King Muay Thai, Sumalee Thai Boxing Gym, CC’s Hideaway, Naka Muay Thai, Oleydong Boxing and Muay Thai Gym and Dragon Muay Thai.

Tiger, AKA and Sumalee also appear in our national Muay Thai gyms in Thailand comparison. Here you get the Phuket-only view: which area each gym sits in, what a visitor can buy, and how to book. If you want to see the street where half of these gyms live, read our Soi Taied guide.

Insider Tip: Book a single class before any package. Phuket’s gyms sell one-off sessions, and a camp that looks perfect online can feel wrong after one clinch round.

Quick answer

Choose Tiger Muay Thai if you want the largest timetable and a street full of other gyms, cafes and hotels. Choose AKA Thailand for an MMA-friendly resort campus in Rawai. Choose Phuket King or Dragon for a smaller gym where the trainer learns your name. Pick CC’s Hideaway if you only want one beach-holiday class, and Sumalee if you want a residential camp away from the crowds.

Key Facts:
  • Peak season: November to April is drier and busier; the Andaman side sees rain from May to October
  • Typical session length: About 90 minutes, usually a morning and an afternoon class
  • Sundays: Tiger and Sumalee run no group classes, Dragon lists Sunday as a rest day, and Phuket King offers private sessions only
  • Minimum age: Sumalee’s group classes start at 14; ask other gyms about younger students
  • Best approach: One drop-in class, then decide

How we picked these gyms

We started with the three Phuket camps already on our national Muay Thai guide, Tiger, AKA and Sumalee, and added five gyms that sell sessions to visitors and carry a verifiable address or listing. We checked each gym’s own website where one exists: Phuket King’s pricing and schedule pages, Sumalee’s training page and AKA’s home and location pages, all on 8 October 2026. Tiger’s rates come from its price page as recorded in our Soi Taied guide on the same date.

Naka and Oleydong have thin websites, so we relied on their own listings and the Klook pages that name them. For Dragon we relied on its Instagram, because its website was offline. Where we could not confirm hours or rates, the card says “confirm direct”. We do not republish star ratings.

Watch out: Rawai Muay Thai is sometimes listed as a Phuket gym because it was founded here in 2003. Our national guide records that it moved to Khao Lak in 2013, so it is not covered on this page.

Which part of Phuket should you base yourself in?

Phuket is big, and daily traffic decides whether training feels easy or like a chore. The practical split looks like this:

  1. Chalong and Soi Taied for Tiger and Dragon. You can walk to class, and the street has gyms, cafes and hotels. No beach on the soi.
  2. Rawai for AKA Thailand. The southern end of the island, reached by road from Chalong.
  3. Kata and Karon for Naka and CC’s Hideaway. This is the beach-holiday option: you ride to a short class and spend the afternoon on sand.
  4. Kathu for Phuket King and Oleydong. An inland local hub, and a ride from the west-coast beaches.
  5. Thalang for Sumalee. The east side, quiet and green, best if you want a retreat-style stay.

Tiger Muay Thai: the biggest camp on Soi Taied

Tiger Muay Thai

Tiger Muay Thai

  • Largest facility
  • All disciplines
  • Drop-in friendly

Open since 2003 on Soi Ta-iad. The operator describes a 9,600 square metre site with 12 rings, an MMA cage, a weights room, a yoga studio and 20-plus courses, from Muay Thai and boxing to BJJ and conditioning. Drop in for one class or commit to a month. Hotels in every price bracket sit within walking distance.

The biggest all-in-one camp on Phuket's fight street

Tiger is the gym visitors search for by name, and it has the scale to back that up. The operator lists a 9,600 square metre site and 20-plus courses, so a group with mixed interests has options. Its published timetable runs Monday to Friday from a 06:30 start to a last session around 19:30, with a shorter Saturday programme and no classes on Sunday.

The scale cuts both ways. You get more choice and a bigger community, but a large mixed-level class will not feel like a small trainer-led camp. Arrive early, tell the coach your experience honestly and test the class you actually plan to take before buying a month. Single classes and day passes are sold at the camp. Its monthly rates carry 7 percent VAT on top, and we show them in the price table below.

Tiger sits on Soi Taied, so you can compare it with Dragon, Lions, Apollo and Insee on foot before you commit.

AKA Thailand: MMA and Muay Thai on one campus

AKA Thailand

AKA Thailand

  • MMA crossover
  • Rawai
  • Resort-style

Phuket sister-camp of American Kickboxing Academy in San Jose, founded by former UFC fighter Mike Swick. The campus has a 7,000 square foot Muay Thai area with oversized rings, a 4,000 square foot MMA and grappling room, a weight room, a pool and an on-site cafe. AKA says it was voted Thailand's top Muay Thai school by the Thai Government for four years running; it does not name the agency or the award, so treat that line as marketing.

MMA and Muay Thai on a resort-style campus in the south

AKA is built for people who want striking and grappling in the same place. The Muay Thai area has oversized rings and the MMA and grappling room is billed as the largest indoor one in Thailand. There is a pool, a weight room and an on-site cafe. The site also advertises a free first session for new members who sign up for a regular group class.

The address is in Rawai, not on Soi Taied. That is the main tradeoff: you will not walk between gyms, and you should check the route from your hotel before booking a month. Our national Muay Thai gyms in Thailand guide covers AKA’s lineage in more detail. Its pricing and class schedule pages are the source of truth for current rates.

Phuket King Muay Thai: technique first, in Kathu

Phuket King Muay Thai

  • Kathu
  • Beginner-friendly
  • Rooms and spa on site

A Kathu gym with a timetable built around one technique per day (kicks Monday, punches Tuesday, elbows Wednesday, knees and teeps Thursday, defence Friday, sparring Saturday). On-site bungalows, a spa with ice bath and sauna, and optional fighter sessions alongside regular classes. Its Viator listing is a one-hour private workshop run by the gym itself.

Technique-led classes with a different focus each weekday

Phuket King runs a timetable where every weekday has one theme: kicks, hands, elbows, knees and teeps, defence, then sparring on Saturday. That structure suits beginners because you repeat the same technique across the morning, afternoon and evening classes and can see yourself improve inside a week. A fighter programme runs alongside regular classes and is optional for gym-goers.

The gym also has bungalows on site, a spa with ice bath and sauna, and its own Viator listing. That listing is a one-hour private 1-on-1 workshop with equipment included, supplied by Phuket King itself. If you would rather join a group class, the gym also has a Klook listing for its group class. Its address is a Kathu pin with no published street number, so open the map link before you set off.

Sumalee Thai Boxing Gym: a residential camp in Thalang

Sumalee Thai Boxing Gym (formerly Sumalee Boxing Gym)

Sumalee Thai Boxing Gym (formerly Sumalee Boxing Gym)

  • Yoga + Muay Thai
  • On-site rooms
  • Quiet east coast

A residential camp on three acres of land on Phuket's quieter east side, founded by a British former amateur fighter and a Thai trainer. Two open-air rings, a strength area, yoga, an ice bath, an on-site restaurant run by a sports nutritionist and 16 air-conditioned rooms. Group training is included in the room price. The gym changed its name to Sumalee Thai Boxing Gym in July 2026.

Muay Thai plus yoga, nutrition and rooms on a three-acre site

Sumalee is the quiet pick. It sits on three acres on the east side of Phuket, away from the beach strips, and trains twice a day Monday to Saturday in an open-air gym with two rings. Group training is included in the room price, so a stay at Sumalee works as a camp rather than a hotel with a gym attached. Yoga, an ice bath and a restaurant with menus from a sports nutritionist round it out.

Group sessions start at age 14. The gym changed its name from Sumalee Boxing Gym to Sumalee Thai Boxing Gym in July 2026, so you will still see the old name on maps and older guides. Book through the gym’s own site.

CC’s Hideaway: one beginner class by the beach

CC's Hideaway

  • Beach-side
  • Beginners
  • Small group

A one-hour pad and mitt class for up to four people on the rooftop of CC's Hideaway hotel, taught by an English-speaking instructor. It is the pick for a first taste of Muay Thai on a beach holiday in Kata or Karon, not for a training block.

Area

A hotel rooftop class, not a fight camp

CC’s Hideaway is not a fight camp, and it does not pretend to be. The class is a one-hour pad and mitt session for up to four people on the hotel’s rooftop, led by an English-speaking instructor. The price includes equipment, drinking water, a face towel, green tea after the session and use of the outdoor pool. Pickup is not included but can be ordered.

It fits a family or a couple who want one Muay Thai session between beach days in Kata or Karon. The class is not recommended for people with serious back injuries or for expecting mothers, per the booking page, and it must be booked at least 17 hours ahead.

Naka Muay Thai: a small gym near Kata

Naka Muay Thai

  • Kata
  • Private classes
  • Rooms on site

A Thai boxing gym a short ride from Kata Beach. Its own site lists daily classes, personal training, private rooms on site, pickup and drop-off, motorbike hire and fight gear for sale. The site says walking to the gym is not ideal because of hills and traffic, and suggests Bolt, Grab or a rented bike.

Small Kata gym with rooms, airport pickup and bike hire

Naka’s own site lists daily classes, personal training, private rooms on site, pickup and drop-off, motorbike hire and fight gear for sale. It sits on Soi Kwonton, a side street of Patak Road, the main road linking Chalong, Kata and Karon. The site is honest about one thing worth knowing: walking to the gym is not ideal because of hills and traffic, so budget for a Grab, Bolt or rented bike.

The Klook listing is a one-hour private class. The gym’s website and Klook disagree on the street number (12 versus 10 Soi Kwonton), so message the gym or use the map pin rather than trusting a number.

Oleydong Boxing and Muay Thai Gym: boxing in Kathu

Oleydong Boxing and Muay Thai Gym

  • Boxing + Muay Thai
  • Family-run
  • Kathu

A family-run Kathu gym that puts technique first and splits its teaching between Western boxing and Muay Thai. The gym is owned by Oleydong, described on its Klook listing as a former WBC champion in the 105 and 115 lb classes. Useful if you want your striking to include proper boxing footwork.

Boxing-led gym owned by a former WBC champion

Oleydong is a boxing gym that also teaches Muay Thai. Its Instagram describes it as family-run with a technique focus, and its Klook listing says the gym is owned by a former WBC champion in the 105 and 115 lb classes. That background shows in the choice of classes: if you want to sharpen your hands and footwork rather than only learn kicks, this is a better fit than a pure Muay Thai camp.

We could not verify a timetable or published rates from the gym’s own channels, so confirm both by message before you travel. The Klook listing is a one-day join-in session.

Dragon Muay Thai: smaller and traditional on Soi Taied

Dragon Muay Thai

  • Soi Taied
  • Family-run
  • Traditional style

A family-run, open-air camp on Soi Ta-iad that teaches in the traditional Muay Chaiya style, according to its Instagram. A smaller, quieter alternative to Tiger on the same street. Its own website was offline when we checked in October 2026, so confirm prices and times by message before you go.

Smaller, Thai-owned camp on the fight street

Dragon is the smaller alternative to Tiger on the same street. Its Instagram advertises traditional Muay Chaiya training, with sessions from 08:00 to 10:00 and 16:00 to 18:00. Its own website was offline when we checked in October 2026, so prices have to come from a direct message.

Choose Dragon if you want a smaller, family-run camp over a large facility. Ask about refunds before paying: our Soi Taied guide notes that earlier versions of Dragon’s site described a strict no-refund policy that also covered illness and injury. Klook sells an intro class that names the gym.

What a session costs: published rates, October 2026

Only three of the eight gyms publish full rates we could check on their own sites. The figures below are what each site listed when we looked in autumn 2026. A weekly or monthly price is an option, not a minimum.

How to choose a gym

Match the gym to the trip, not the other way round.

  • A beach holiday with one class: CC’s Hideaway or Naka. Short, close to Kata and Karon.
  • A week of training with beginner coaching: Phuket King or Tiger. Both sell week passes.
  • A fitness block of several weeks: Tiger or Sumalee. Tiger for a street full of options, Sumalee for a retreat setting.
  • MMA and Muay Thai together: AKA Thailand or Tiger.
  • Boxing technique: Oleydong.
  • A smaller camp on the fight street: Dragon.

Try two gyms in your first three days. Watch how much correction beginners receive, and how many people share a pad round. Then buy a week, not a month.

Watching fights in Phuket

Training and watching feed each other. Live cards in Patong show you what the pad work is building towards, and many visitors go on their first or second night. Phuket has two stadiums in Patong: Bangla Boxing Stadium and Patong Boxing Stadium Sainamyen. Cards run several evenings a week rather than nightly, and the schedule moves with the season and promoter, so check the week’s card before you go.

For how fight nights work across Thailand, ticket types and how to avoid touts, read our guide to watching Muay Thai fights in Thailand.

Safety Tip: If you rent a scooter to reach a gym, check that your licence and travel insurance cover riding in Thailand, wear a helmet and do not ride when exhausted after a hard session. Taxis and Grab are the safer default after evening classes.

Planning your first training week

Phuket’s heat and humidity make day one harder than it looks. Start with one class a day, add a second only after you know how your shins, shoulders and sleep respond, and keep one full rest day. Rainy season, May to October on this coast, means cheaper rooms and quieter gyms but sudden downpours that make scooter travel unpleasant.

Bring your own hand wraps if you have a preference. Phuket King sells a kit of top, shorts and wraps, and Naka sells fight gear; ask every other gym about glove hire before you arrive.

For a wider choice of beaches, restaurants and places to stay, start with our Phuket visit guide, and for hotels on the training street see Soi Taied. Planning to compare Phuket with other bases? Our Muay Thai gyms in Thailand guide covers Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Koh Samui and more, and our Muay Thai Koh Samui and Muay Thai Chiang Mai pages go deeper on those islands and cities.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best Muay Thai gym in Phuket for a first-timer?
Tiger Muay Thai suits most first-timers because it sells single classes and has a large timetable, so you can try a class and leave if it is not for you. Phuket King and Dragon are smaller options, and CC's Hideaway runs a one-hour beginner class for up to four people if you only want a taste.
How much does Muay Thai training cost in Phuket?
On published 2026 rates, a single group class costs 400 to 500 THB at Phuket King, Tiger and Sumalee. Monthly group passes range from 7,000 THB at Phuket King to 13,500 THB at Tiger (plus 7 percent VAT). Rates change, so check each gym's price page before you pay.
Is Tiger Muay Thai open on Sundays?
No group classes run on Sunday at Tiger, according to its published timetable. Sumalee is also closed on Sunday, and Phuket King runs no group sessions that day, only private classes and open gym.
Where should I stay to train Muay Thai in Phuket?
Stay on or beside Soi Taied in Chalong if you plan to train at Tiger or Dragon, so you can walk to class. Choose Kata or Karon if beach time matters more and accept a short ride to the gym. See our Soi Taied guide for hotels on the street.
What is the difference between Tiger Muay Thai and AKA Thailand?
Tiger sits on Soi Taied in Chalong with a street of gyms, cafes and hotels around it. AKA is a resort-style campus in Rawai with a pool, an on-site cafe and a large MMA room. Tiger is easier to combine with other gyms; AKA keeps everything on one site.
Can I try a free class at AKA Thailand?
AKA's own site says new members receive their first session free when they sign up for a regular group class. Confirm the current terms with the gym before you turn up.
Can I watch Muay Thai fights in Phuket?
Yes. Patong has two stadiums running live cards, Bangla Boxing Stadium and Patong Boxing Stadium Sainamyen. Fight nights change by season and promoter, so check the card for your dates. See our guide to watching Muay Thai fights in Thailand.
Is Muay Thai in Phuket safe for beginners?
Every gym here takes beginners, and Sumalee says sparring is optional. Tell the trainer your experience level, start with one class a day and add volume only after you know how your shins, shoulders and sleep respond.
