Mallika City, 1905 A.D.

Mallika City recreates a Siamese town as it looked in 1905 — R.S. 124, the 124th year of the Rattanakosin Era and roughly the midpoint of King Rama V’s reign — across 60 rai (about 9.6 hectares) outside Kanchanaburi town. Admission is 250 THB for adults, 120 THB for children, open daily 09:00-18:00.

Walking Through 1905

The park is built around more than 100 wooden Ruen Thai houses, traditional stilted homes constructed without nails in the old joinery style, arranged into streets and a market square rather than displayed as isolated exhibits. Staff in period dress run the shopfronts — demonstrating cooking, flower garland-making, wood carving, and other crafts of the era — so the town functions as a working set rather than a static museum. Rickshaw-style carriage rides (“jog cars”) circulate through the grounds for visitors who’d rather ride than walk the full 60 rai.

Insider Tip: Rent a period outfit near the entrance (100-300 THB) before starting the walk — most of the photo backdrops are designed with costumed visitors in mind, and staff are used to helping tourists get dressed correctly.

In the evening, a traditional Thai dance performance runs for about an hour, typically paired with a dinner service — the combined dinner-and-show ticket is 700 THB for adults and 350 THB for children, against 250 THB for daytime entry alone. Dinner service is set up for groups of 25 or more on weekdays; weekends run lunch instead.

Watch out: Visitor reports note that not every shopfront is staffed on quieter afternoons — the core streets and main houses are always open, but some craft demonstrations depend on the day and season. Weekends and the evening show slot tend to have the fullest programme running.

Mallika City, 1905 A.D. is at Wang Dong subdistrict, Mueang Kanchanaburi. View on Google Maps. It’s roughly a 20-30 minute drive from Kanchanaburi town, best reached by private car or taxi, and often paired on a day trip with the Bridge Over the River Kwai or Kanchanaburi Cultural Centre in town.
