Nakhon Ratchasima Zoo
สวนสัตว์นครราชสีมา (สวนสัตว์โคราช)
Nakhon Ratchasima Zoo covers savannah-style grassland in Chai Mongkhon subdistrict, on Ratchasima-Pak Thong Chai Road at the edge of Korat city. Entry is 150 THB for foreign adults and 100 THB for Thai adults (70 THB and 20 THB respectively for children), open daily 08:00-17:00. The ticket covers the animal collection only — Fantasia Water Park, the tram, and bicycle rentals all charge separately.
The layout leans heavily African rather than a general world-zoo mix: lions, cheetahs, leopards, black panthers, white rhinos, zebras, African elephants, giraffes, camels, and wild buffalo share open, savannah-style enclosures rather than the barred cages of an older-style zoo. A kangaroo yard and a reptile house sit apart from the main African section.
Scheduled seal shows and other animal demonstrations run through the day — check the board near the entrance for times, since they shift by season. A parrot garden and a penguin exhibit round out the animal side. Beyond the animals, the grounds stretch into a full day-trip site: Fantasia Water Park, overnight accommodation, banquet and conference halls, and a campground — useful if you’re driving in from further afield and want to catch the morning feeding times without an early start.
Entry is free for anyone 60 or older, for people with disabilities, and for monks and novices — no separate ticket needed, just show ID at the gate.
Insider Tip: Come in the morning. The enclosures are open-plan with little shade, and by early afternoon in the hot season both the animals and the crowds retreat — feeding times, posted at the entrance, are the best window to actually see the lions and rhinos moving around.
Watch out: Because the animals free-roam larger, savannah-style paddocks rather than being lined up along a path, it’s easy to miss species if you don’t follow the signage — budget at least half a day to see the whole site properly.
Like Dusit Zoo in Bangkok and Chiang Mai Zoo, Korat Zoo is run by Thailand’s Zoological Park Organization, which explains the shared zoothailand.org web address and near-identical fee structure across sites. It sits on the same road, Ratchasima-Pak Thong Chai Road, that continues toward Jim Thompson Farm further south in Pak Thong Chai district. Inside Korat itself, the Thao Suranari Monument is the other essential city stop.
