Siang Ping Loh (Grand China Hotel)

Siang Ping Loh (เซียง ปิง เหลา) is the Chinese restaurant on the 8th floor of Grand China Hotel at 215 Yaowarat Road, in the middle of Bangkok’s Chinatown. It is the hotel-dining counterpart to the street-food strip below: an air-conditioned dining room with lift access and a menu built on Cantonese classics.

What to order

The signature is Peking roasted duck. The hotel’s own listing points out that CNN Go once voted it the most delicious Peking roasted duck in Thailand, and the dish is the reason many families book here. At lunch the focus shifts to dim sum, with the usual Cantonese steamed and fried baskets alongside soups and roast meats. Prices are not listed here.

Hours and booking

Grand China Hotel lists two sittings: daytime 11am to 2pm and evenings 6pm to 10pm, every day. Book ahead for weekend lunch, for any group of six or more, and well ahead of Chinese New Year, when the whole of Yaowarat is busy. Mentioning Peking duck at booking time helps the kitchen. Getting there

MRT Wat Mangkon on the Blue Line is the nearest station and the easiest arrival after dark, when Chinatown traffic slows to a crawl.
