Villa Maliya is a five-bedroom villa right on Laem Samrong Beach at Plai Laem, the north-east corner of Koh Samui. It sleeps 10 to 12, has a 16-metre saltwater infinity pool with a swim-up bar, and sits 7 km from the airport. Again Beach Bar is 20 metres along the sand.
Indoors, outdoors and the bar in the pool
Living room, dining area and kitchen run together as one open space facing the sea. The kitchen is a proper one, with an oven, hob, dishwasher, juicer and coffee machine, and a Thai chef can be booked to take it over. A Sonos system covers the lounge.
All five bedrooms have their own bathrooms, air conditioning, smart TVs and blackout curtains, and four open onto furnished balconies. The main bedroom has a four-poster king; three more have kings and the fifth has two singles, which works for children or a pair of friends.
The pool is the reason to book. It runs 16 metres toward the sea, with a swim-up bar at one end and loungers along the deck, and the beach is a few steps past it. Kayaks and paddleboards are free to use.
Insider Tip: Book massages for the villa rather than heading out. In-villa spa treatments cost extra but the therapist comes to you, which beats a drive into Chaweng traffic after a day on the water.
