Samujana is a gated estate of 23 private villas on the hillside above Choeng Mon, on the north-east cape of Koh Samui. Every villa is a whole house with its own infinity pool, from three bedrooms for six to eight for 16. They share an address, a tennis court and a security team, and very little else: one has a boxing gym and a basketball court, another a conference room, another a yoga deck above a waterfall.
That’s why choosing one is harder than it looks. The villas carry a name and a number (Villa Busara is Villa 24), and the estate’s own descriptions read much alike. We read the full description of all 23 and compared them on what changes the week: how many people sleep in real bedrooms, what the house has beyond the pool, and how many stairs you’ll climb.

Quick answer: which Samujana villa to book
For a group of 16 there’s only one choice, Villa Busara, the estate’s single eight-bedroom villa. Families with small children should look first at Villa Pensri, which sleeps 14 and is the only villa with a separate wading pool. For 12, Villa Achara has the most inside: a 12-seat cinema, a games room, a gym and a spa room. Groups of 10 who want five equal king suites should take Villa Khun Mae or Villa Phueng. Four couples get the most house at Villa Lamai, with its underground cinema and bar, or Villa Malai, where two bedrooms have their own terrace jacuzzi.
Insider Tip: Villas of the same size are close substitutes, so if your first choice is taken for your dates, check its neighbours of the same size before you change week. There are nine four-bedroom villas and six with five bedrooms.

What every Samujana villa includes
The things that don’t change from villa to villa are the reason people book Samujana instead of a one-off house. Each villa has a villa manager and an attendant, with daily housekeeping, and breakfast is served in the villa every morning as part of the stay. Airport transfers are included, and the estate has 24-hour security and a floodlit tennis court that all guests share. Most villas also have backup generators.
Lunch and dinner are a separate matter. A private chef can cook in the villa at extra cost, and on several villas the daytime staff finish at 5pm unless you’ve booked dinner in. For 12 or more people, budget for the chef on at least some nights: driving a group that size out to dinner every evening gets old fast.
Watch out: Every Samujana villa is built into a slope. Expect open staircases, terraces with drops, and check pool fencing with the villa manager before you arrive. With toddlers, pick a villa where a bedroom sits on the pool level.
The biggest villas: 7 and 8 bedrooms
Only two villas on the estate take more than 12 people, and they’re quite different houses.
Villa Busara (Villa 24)
Eight king suites for 16, a seawater infinity pool, a terrace jacuzzi, and a cinema, gym, games room and wine cellar on the lower level. With 16 people you'll want the chef, which costs extra.

Busara is the one for a milestone birthday or a multi-family reunion where everyone gets the same room. All eight bedrooms are king suites, so nobody draws the short straw, and the lower floor is given over to play: a cinema, a gym, a games room and a wine cellar. Its one cost is food. Sixteen people eat a lot, and the chef is extra.
Villa Pensri (Villa 12)
Seven king suites, a 25 m pool with a separate wading pool, a cinema for 20-plus, a boxing gym, a basketball practice court and a trampoline. Five of the bedrooms are on the lower floor.

Pensri is the better choice when the group includes children under eight. Its wading pool sits apart from the 25 m main pool, so small children can splash while the adults swim. The rest is built for older children and teenagers: a cinema that seats over 20, a games room with arcade machines, a basketball practice court, a trampoline and a commercial gym with a boxing area. Five of the seven bedrooms are on the lower floor.

Four villas sleep 12, and the choice comes down to what the group will do when it isn’t in the pool.
Villa Achara (Villa 21)
Six king suites over four levels and more than 1,000 sq m of living space: a 12-seat cinema, games room, gym, spa room and conference room. Expect a lot of stairs.

Achara has the most going on indoors of any villa on the estate. The cinema seats all 12 at once, and the spa room has massage beds, so a therapist can come to you. The conference room also makes it a candidate for a working retreat. Four levels is a lot of stairs, though, and the staff leave at 5pm unless dinner is in.
Villa Tida (Villa 28)
Six king suites across 1,200-plus sq m, with a cinema of sofa beds, a games room with consoles, table tennis, a gym and a massage room. Three floors.

Five kings and a twin on a 2,678 sq m plot, with an infinity pool round the house, a projector cinema, a gym and a pool table. The twin room suits two children.

Villa Khun Mae (Villa 4)

Phueng is Villa 1 and has more outdoor games than its neighbours: its own badminton court, a games room, and a sala with a barbecue next to the L-shaped pool. Three lounges let a group of 10 spread out in the evening.
Villa Anong (Villa 20)
Three kings, a twin and a bunk room for children, on the estate's rocky shoreline. There's a gym and a sunken living room facing the pool, and cots and high chairs on request.

Anong is on the estate’s rocky shoreline, and it’s the best five-bedroom house for young children. The bunk room keeps them together, cots and high chairs are available, and one king bedroom is on the ground floor near the kitchen. The rocks below aren’t for swimming, so beach days mean Choeng Mon.
Villa Karawek (Villa 6)
Four king suites and a bunk room, a spa room for Thai massage, a gym and a sunset deck over a coral cove. Eight adults plus two children is the comfortable fit.

Nine villas sleep eight, and this is where the estate is most varied. Some are full entertainment houses; others are quiet places with a pool and a view.

Four en-suite bedrooms for eight, and a lower level with a cinema, bar and pool table. There's an indoor slide for children and a jacuzzi bath in the ground-floor master.

Villa Tasanee (Villa 11B)
Three king suites, each with a bathtub, a Sonos TV lounge and a poolside barbecue. The smallest group size on the estate, alongside Pimchan.

Getting around from Samujana
The estate is about 4 km from Samui International Airport, which makes it one of the quickest villa transfers on the island. Choeng Mon Beach is roughly 900 m downhill, with a sheltered bay for swimming and restaurants along the sand. The Big Buddha and Wat Plai Laem are a short drive west, and Fisherman’s Village in Bophut, with its Friday walking street, is a little further. Chaweng is a short drive south for nightlife.
Insider Tip: The 900 m to Choeng Mon looks walkable on the map, but it’s downhill there and uphill all the way back. Plan on a taxi for beach days, and ask the villa manager to book one.

Samujana or another Koh Samui villa?
Samujana suits groups who want a pool, a view, a short airport run and staff they don’t have to manage. It doesn’t suit groups who want to walk out of the villa onto sand.
