A big boat, rather than a speedboat, is the key detail here. Phang Nga Bay’s limestone stacks are genuinely impressive, but the day-trip experience falls apart when you’re crammed onto a bouncing speedboat with 40 other people and an hour of spine-rattling each way. This tour uses a two-deck cruiser out of Ao Po Pier with a buffet table, shaded seating and room to move, which makes the 7-8 hour day feel leisurely rather than endurance sport.

The itinerary opens at Panak Island, where local paddlers take you inside sea caves in two-person canoes. You duck under stalactites, pop out in hidden lagoons, and generally feel a lot more Indiana Jones than you did eating breakfast at your hotel. Hong Island comes next for another canoe run, then a buffet lunch onboard while cruising towards James Bond Island, the limestone pinnacle from The Man with the Golden Gun. You get time ashore to walk around and take photos before a final stop at Nakae Island for swimming, paddleboarding or a third canoe loop. Groups are capped at 15, so the paddle staff actually have time for you.

Pickup by air-conditioned minivan covers most of Phuket, and the meeting point is at the gate of Ao Po Pier where the crew wear pink t-shirts. Wear swimwear under something light, bring dry bags for cameras, and factor in the national park entrance fee which isn’t included. Gratuities and alcoholic drinks are extra too.

The bay is at its clearest November to April. Rainy season still runs, but visibility in the caves drops and the afternoon squalls can cut the swimming short. Souvenir photos are sold on the boat if you want someone else to take them while you’re paddling; otherwise a waterproof phone pouch is enough for most guests.
