A private full-day boat charter to the Similan Islands, running 6 to 8 hours from $1,633 to book the boat privately for up to 15 people — no sharing a deck with another group’s schedule.
The day starts with check-in and a briefing at the operator’s office, coffee or tea while you store any bags you don’t need on board. First snorkel stop is Koh Miang (Island No. 4), where clear water and healthy coral suit beginners and confident snorkelers alike. From there the boat runs to Koh Payu (Island No. 7) for a reef slope between 5 and 40 metres at a site called East of Eden, then on to Christmas Point off Koh Bangu (Island No. 9) for coral heads at The Mooring and reef fish at Snapper Alley. The last stop is Donald Duck Bay on Koh Similan (Island No. 8) itself, where you can swim or hike up to the Sailing Rock viewpoint before the boat calls at Koh Rang Yai’s beach for fresh fruit and cool drinks on the way back, with the option to watch the sunset before the final short cruise to the pier.
Snorkel gear, bottled water, soft drinks, snacks and an onboard restroom are included; lunch and the national park fee (500 THB per adult, 250 THB per child) aren’t — the fee is paid in cash to your guide on the day. The boat suits all physical fitness levels, with pram and stroller access, infant seats available, and service animals allowed.
Private charter makes sense if you’re travelling as a family or group and want to set your own snorkel pace rather than follow a shared-boat schedule — it’s one of the pricier ways to see the Similans for exactly that reason. If budget matters more than privacy, a shared-boat day trip covers similar ground for a fraction of the cost.
Insider Tip: Bring cash for the national park fee — it’s collected on the day, not at booking, and your guide handles the ticket once you pay.
