About Prachinburi

Overview
Prachinburi is a quiet eastern province about 130 km from Bangkok, on the lowland plain south of the Khao Yai and Thap Lan mountains. Most travellers come for one thing in particular: the Chao Phraya Abhaibhubejhr Hospital, a centre of traditional Thai herbal medicine whose herbal museum, learning centre and own-brand products have made the town a destination for wellness-minded visitors. Beyond that, it is an unhurried provincial town on the Bang Pakong river with a good national museum and a scattering of old temples.
The province also holds some of Thailand’s oldest history. The ancient town of Si Mahosot, south of the modern centre, preserves moats, ponds and laterite foundations from the Dvaravati period, more than a thousand years old.
Top Things to Do
The Abhaibhubejhr complex is the anchor — a riverside hospital known for traditional medicine, with a heritage building, a herbal exhibition and learning centre, a herb garden and a shop selling teas, balms and herbal cosmetics. The Prachinburi National Museum covers the region’s Dvaravati and Khmer-era finds and is one of the better provincial museums in the east.
For the outdoors, Khao Ito Forest Park on the edge of town has a small waterfall and reservoir for an easy half-day, while the Thap Lan and Khao Yai national parks rise to the north of the province with bigger waterfalls and forest. Riverside temples such as Wat Kaeo Phichit and the King Naresuan shrine round out a day in town, and the Bang Pakong river itself shapes the old quarter.
Where to Stay
Prachinburi is a working provincial town rather than a resort destination, so accommodation runs to small hotels and guesthouses in and around Mueang Prachin Buri, with a few resorts and homestays out toward the national-park foothills. Many visitors treat the town as a day trip from Bangkok or pair it with a night in the cooler Khao Yai region to the north, where the resort choice is much wider.
Getting There
Prachinburi sits about 130 km east of Bangkok. Buses and minivans run from the capital’s eastern terminals, and there is a railway line, but a car or hired driver makes the town’s spread-out sights and the surrounding parks far easier to reach. Many visitors fold Prachinburi into a wider eastern loop taking in the Khao Yai region.
Best Time to Visit
The cool, dry months from November to February are the most comfortable. The rainy season from May to October brings afternoon downpours but greener countryside and fuller waterfalls; the hot months of March to May are best handled with early starts.
