Wat Yanasangwararam Woramahawihan

วัดญาณสังวรารามวรมหาวิหาร

Pattaya Reviewed Jul 2026

Entry Free

Wat Yanasangwararam Woramahawihan is a royal Buddhist monastery around 20 km south of Pattaya in Bang Lamung district, spread across roughly 58 hectares of landscaped grounds with lakes, gardens, and forest. Entry to the temple grounds is free, daily 08:00-17:00.

The centrepiece is the Phra Boromathat Chedi Maha Chakripipat, said to enshrine Buddha relics, alongside a mondop housing a replica Buddha footprint and a hall built to a Bodh Gaya chedi design. At the entrance stand eight pavilions in the Nak Lennam Nanachat group, each built in a different regional or national architectural style — Central Thai, Lanna, Isan, and others including Japanese and Indian influences — a deliberate showcase of Buddhism’s spread across Asia rather than a single-style temple.

Watch out: Don’t confuse this temple with the neighbouring Viharn Sien (Anek Kuson Sala) museum, or with Khao Chi Chan (“Buddha Mountain”) about 500 metres further down the same road. All three are worth visiting but are separately run, separately ticketed, and easy to mix up when booking a driver or tour.

Grounds are large enough that a proper visit takes an hour or more on foot, with lakes and forested sections that keep it noticeably quieter than temples inside Pattaya itself. Morning visits before the midday heat builds are the more comfortable option, and you’ll see monks going about ordinary temple duties rather than a performance staged for visitors.

Key Facts:
  • Entry (temple grounds): Free, daily 08:00-17:00
  • Viharn Sien museum next door: separate paid ticket, not included
  • Dress code: covered shoulders and knees
  • Distance from Pattaya: approximately 20 km / 20-30 minutes by car
  • Nearby but separate: Khao Chi Chan Buddha Mountain, ~500m down the same road

Pair a visit with the Anek Kuson Sala (Viharn Sien) museum next door, or the Ancient Chinese Community, both in the same Bang Lamung district south of Pattaya.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Wat Yanasangwararam free to enter?
Yes, the temple grounds are free, open daily 08:00-17:00. The Viharn Sien museum on the same road has its own separate paid admission — the free/paid split trips a lot of visitors up.
Is Viharn Sien part of the same admission?
No. Viharn Sien (Anek Kuson Sala), the museum of Chinese and Thai art and statues, is a separate building nearby with its own ticket — around 50 THB per the operator's current listing. It's not covered by the free entry to the temple grounds.
Is this the same place as Buddha Mountain (Khao Chi Chan)?
No — they're separate sites about 500 metres apart on the same road south of Pattaya. Wat Yanasangwararam is the royal monastery with lakeside grounds and chedis; Khao Chi Chan is a laser-carved gold-outlined Buddha image on a cliff face further down the road.
What's the dress code?
Standard Thai temple rules — covered shoulders and knees, no swimwear. It's a working royal monastery, not a tourist-facing show temple, so dress expectations are enforced more consistently than at some Pattaya attractions.
How far is it from central Pattaya?
Around 12 miles (about 20 km) south of Pattaya in Bang Lamung district's Huai Yai subdistrict — a 20-30 minute drive depending on traffic.
