Four Seasons Resort Koh Samui spills down a steep, jungle-covered hillside at Angthong on the island’s quieter northwest coast, facing west across the Gulf of Thailand toward the Five Islands. It is a villa resort almost top to bottom — accommodation is overwhelmingly private-pool villas, terraced so that nearly every one has its own pool and an open sea view, linked by buggies that ferry guests up and down the slope.
The west-facing aspect is the signature. Sunsets are a nightly fixture, watched from villa pools or from CoCoRum, the rum-focused bar perched above the water. Dining runs from Koh Thai Kitchen for Thai cooking to Pla Pla on the beach, and the spa and a much-photographed infinity pool sit near the shoreline. At the foot of the hill is the resort’s own small private beach — sheltered and calm rather than broad — reached, like everything here, by a quick buggy ride.
Best for: couples and honeymooners who want total privacy, a pool of their own and sunset views, and don’t mind a short drive to the island’s restaurants and nightlife. Less good for: travellers who want to walk straight onto a long beach or be in the middle of Chaweng’s action.
Insider Tip: the hillside is genuinely steep — request a villa height that matches your priority. Higher villas have the best Gulf panoramas; lower ones are closest to the beach and CoCoRum. Buggies are on call either way.

Bophut’s Fisherman’s Village, with its Friday walking street and waterfront restaurants, is the easiest evening out, roughly half an hour away by car or resort transfer.
