Waldorf Astoria Bangkok occupies the upper floors of the striking Magnolias Ratchadamri Boulevard tower, right in the Ratchaprasong shopping district. Opened in 2018, it pairs the brand’s New York heritage with Thai art-deco detailing, looking out over the Royal Bangkok Sports Club racecourse on one side and the dense retail core — CentralWorld, Gaysorn, the Erawan Shrine — on the other.
Two features stand out. Peacock Alley, the lounge concept born at the original Manhattan Waldorf, anchors the lobby level with one of the city’s more elegant afternoon teas. And the trio of stacked sky bars — the Champagne Bar, the Bull & Bear, and the open-air Sky rooftop — climbs the top of the tower around a sculptural spiral staircase, making the hotel a genuine night-out destination, not just a place to sleep. The Front Room restaurant serves a Thai-Nordic tasting menu, and the spa and pool sit high above the street noise.
Best for: travellers who want to be in the middle of Bangkok’s luxury shopping with a polished bar scene on tap. Less good for: those after a poolside resort or the riverside calm of the Chao Phraya hotels.
Insider Tip: the three vertical bars are a draw in their own right — start at the Champagne Bar and work up to the Sky terrace at dusk. Book a high floor on the racecourse side for the open green view that’s so rare this central.
- Steps from BTS Ratchadamri and the Ratchaprasong malls
- Standout stacked sky bars and Peacock Alley afternoon tea
- Open racecourse views from higher floors
- Busy shopping-district location, not a quiet retreat
- City hotel rather than a sun-and-pool resort
With BTS Ratchadamri at the base of the tower, Siam, Chit Lom and the wider network are a quick ride, and the Erawan Shrine and CentralWorld are a few minutes on foot.
