Bor Hin Farm Stay

Bor Hin Farm Stay is a homestay run by the Ban Phru Chood fish-cage-farming community enterprise, in Bo Hin subdistrict, Sikao district, Trang — on the Andaman coast, not an inland farm despite the name. The group formed after the 2004 tsunami, when local fishing families organised around floating-cage aquaculture and, over time, added coastal conservation and small-scale homestay tourism on the side. It sits within Trang’s dugong-and-seagrass coast, a stretch of shallow, grass-bedded water that’s one of the last reliable dugong habitats in the Gulf of Thailand’s Andaman side.
Days run on the tide. Guests join host families at the fish cages, head out by longtail into Ao Hua Hin and Ao Bun Khong to lay crab traps, paddle kayaks through the mangrove channels, and watch the sunset from Hat Kep Tawan — a stretch of beach whose name translates roughly as “sunset-catching.” Seagrass and mangrove planting happen seasonally, and visitors are welcome to pitch in rather than just watch. Meals are built around the day’s catch: fish, squid and shellfish cooked southern-Thai style, eaten with the family that caught it.
Insider Tip: This only works if you’re comfortable without a fixed itinerary — activities shift with the tide and weather, and the appeal is joining a working fishing day rather than following a set schedule.
Evenings are simple: dinner with the host family in one of three stilt houses along the Sikao canal, each with a wide open wooden deck facing the water. It’s a genuine community-tourism setup rather than a resort with a theme — good for travellers who want to live alongside a fishing village for a night or two, not so good if you want private facilities or air conditioning guaranteed.
Bor Hin is an overnight stay rather than a drop-in attraction, so it runs as a paid community package — book ahead, from around 650 THB per person including meals and activities, arranged directly with the community or through a local operator rather than an online booking site. It lies in Sikao district north of Trang town; arrange transport through the homestay, since public transport along this stretch of coast is limited. Bring clothes you don’t mind getting wet, sun protection and insect repellent, and aim for the dry season (roughly November–April) — the rainy season can cancel the longer boat trips. Ban Yan Sue Community, another Trang village-tourism project, makes a useful comparison if you want to see how differently these homestays run village to village.
