Bueng Kan Living Community Museum
In the So Phisai district of Bueng Kan, the Living Community Museum is the old family home of food stylist Suthipong Suriya, reimagined as a contemporary space for the culture of the Isan northeast. It is not a museum of glass cases and labels — a sixty-year-old, two-storey wooden house sits at its heart, with a relaxed lifestyle-and-learning hub built around it that blends northeastern tradition with modern design.
The most photographed feature is a long galvanised-metal wall painted with murals by architecture-faculty alumni of Silpakorn University, much of the artwork drawing on the Naga, the serpent figure woven deep into the beliefs of the Mekong communities. Around the house sit a small market selling local crafts and produce, shaded seating, and stalls serving Isan food. It is an easy, unhurried stop rather than a guided attraction, and a good window onto how a younger generation is keeping regional identity alive.
Admission is free and the house is open daily. It works best as a short visit paired with the riverside town itself or the wider Bueng Kan wetlands. Reach it by songthaew or taxi from Bueng Kan town centre, about 30 minutes away. Wear comfortable shoes, bring sun protection, and dress modestly out of respect for the family home that anchors the site.
