Chan Ta Then Waterfall
Chan Ta Then Waterfall offers a refreshing escape from the coastal attractions of Chonburi province, a short drive inland from Si Racha. It sits within the Khao Khiao–Khao Chomphu Wildlife Sanctuary, where a multi-tiered cascade runs through forest and forms natural pools for swimming. While most travellers focus on Chonburi’s beaches, this waterfall is a chance to explore the region’s greener, hilly interior.
The waterfall tumbles down several rocky tiers, each forming its own pool where you can wade and swim. Dense forest surrounds the cascade, filtering the sunlight, and trails wind up between the levels — the lower pools are the deepest, with smaller, quieter ones higher up. Birdsong and the rush of water carry through the trees, and the shaded gorge stays noticeably cooler than the coast.
Tranquillity defines the experience, and on weekends local families gather around the pools. The catch is water: like most waterfalls in this part of Thailand, Chan Ta Then is seasonal — it flows strongest during and after the rainy season (roughly August to November) and can slow to a trickle in the dry months, so time your visit accordingly.
Visit on a weekday morning for the most peaceful experience. Bring swimwear, a towel and non-slip shoes for the wet rocks. The site is reached by car or motorbike from Si Racha, with parking near the entrance, and as it lies within a wildlife sanctuary a small entry fee applies at the checkpoint — around 30 baht per person, the same for Thais and foreigners, plus a charge for vehicles. Pack snacks and water, as facilities are limited.
