Chanaen Waterfall
Chanaen Waterfall is one of the larger waterfalls in Bueng Kan, spreading nearly 100 metres wide across the rock when it is in full flow. It lies in Seka district in the far northeast, and it is very much a rainy-season sight — the cascade is at its best from roughly July to October and slows to a trickle in the dry months.
The falls come in two tiers set about 300 metres apart, linked by a forest path. The most unusual feature is the Khua Hin, a natural stone bridge where the stream slips beneath a shelf of rock and re-emerges below — a quirk of the limestone that gives the site its character. The surrounding forest is quiet and shaded, with rocks and pools to pick your way across when the water is lower.
A separate cave, Tham Chan Pha, sits a short walk from the checkpoint, so the area rewards a bit of exploring. Facilities are basic and it sees few foreign visitors — this is a local rainy-season picnic and swimming spot rather than a developed attraction.
Come in or just after the rainy season (about July to October) to see the falls at full strength; outside that window there may be little water. Entry is free. Wear shoes with grip for the wet rocks, bring water and insect repellent, and carry your rubbish out. Access is easiest with your own transport from Seka or Bueng Kan town.
