Phaya Gopi Viewpoint sits on the Ban Sae Roi Pream-Chong Sangam road in Phu Sing district, on the Phanom Dong Rak escarpment that forms the Thai-Cambodian border in this part of Si Sa Ket. It’s about 4 km from the Chong Sangam border crossing. Entry is free, and it’s open daily, 6:00am-5:00pm.
The viewpoint looks out over the valley of the upper Samran stream, the waterway that divides Phu Sing district in Si Sa Ket from Buachet district in neighbouring Surin province. Three Thai-style pavilions give visitors somewhere to sit in the shade, and a coffee stand - run by the Thai military unit based at the site - serves drinks, a detail that says as much about this being a border-security area as it does a tourist stop. Local accounts trace the name to กูปรี (kouprey), a wild forest ox that once ranged this stretch of the Thai-Cambodian frontier, with a folk story about elephants descending the cliff to drink from the Samran stream and eat mineral-rich clay before climbing back to higher ground.
Because the site is on an active section of the border escarpment, with a military post attached, the atmosphere is different from an ordinary provincial viewpoint - expect a visible security presence rather than a purely scenic stop. That’s also the reason to check conditions before visiting: viewpoints and access roads along the Si Sa Ket-Cambodia border have been affected by border tensions in the past, and a spot this close to a working checkpoint is exactly the kind of place where access can change without much notice.
Watch out: This viewpoint sits inside an active Thai-Cambodian border security area, not a fenced-off provincial park. Confirm current access conditions before making the trip - a phone call to the Si Sa Ket Provincial Administrative Organisation or a local tour operator is more reliable than an old blog post.

For more of Si Sa Ket’s border country, Khao Phra Viharn National Park offers another escarpment-edge outlook further east in Kantharalak district; back toward the provincial capital, the Khmer ruins at Sa Kamphaeng Yai make a worthwhile add-on for the rest of what Si Sa Ket has to offer.
