Benchasiri Park

Benchasiri Park is a compact sculpture park on Sukhumvit Road in Bangkok, directly beside the Emporium and right at the exit of BTS Phrom Phong station. Entry is free, open daily 05:00-21:00.

Don’t confuse it with its Sukhumvit-area namesakes: Benjakitti Park (larger, built around a reservoir near the Queen Sirikit National Convention Centre) and Lumpini Park (Bangkok’s biggest central green space, near Silom) are both separate parks. Benchasiri is smaller and denser — a single landscaped block you can walk end to end in under an hour, with mature rain trees shading pathways that loop past a central lawn, tropical flower beds, and a small ornamental lake.

Its defining feature is the twelve contemporary sculptures by Thai artists scattered across the lawns, commissioned in 1992 to mark Queen Sirikit’s sixtieth birthday — the reason the park carries the nickname “Park of Sculptures.” Outdoor fitness equipment, jogging paths, and a playground round out the practical amenities, and benches are placed generously enough that finding a quiet spot rarely takes long even when the park is busy.

Insider Tip: Early morning (before 07:00) is when the park earns its keep — locals doing tai chi, joggers on the loop path, and soft light on the sculptures before the Sukhumvit traffic and heat build up.

Watch out: The park is genuinely small. If you’re coming from further away expecting a half-day green escape on the scale of Lumpini, you’ll be done in 30-45 minutes — treat it as a stop between Sukhumvit shopping and sightseeing, not a destination in itself.

Key Facts:
  • Entry: Free, daily 05:00-21:00
  • Access: BTS Phrom Phong, exit at street level onto Sukhumvit Road
  • Known for: Twelve sculptures commissioned for Queen Sirikit’s 60th birthday, 1992
  • Not to confuse with: Benjakitti Park or Lumpini Park — different parks, different locations

Bring a water bottle rather than relying on vendors inside the park itself — food and drink options are limited on-site, though the Emporium next door covers that easily. The late-afternoon light and cooler temperatures make it a reasonable spot to decompress before dinner in the Sukhumvit area, though don’t expect much shade relief at midday when the sun is directly overhead.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Benchasiri Park free to enter?
Yes, entry is free, open daily 05:00-21:00.
How do I get to Benchasiri Park?
Take the BTS Skytrain to Phrom Phong station — the park entrance is right by the station, on Sukhumvit Road next to the Emporium shopping centre.
Is Benchasiri Park the same as Benjakitti Park?
No, they're two different parks despite the similar names. Benjakitti Park is the larger park near the Queen Sirikit National Convention Centre, built around a reservoir. Benchasiri Park is the smaller sculpture park on Sukhumvit Road by BTS Phrom Phong.
Is Benchasiri Park the same as Lumpini Park?
No. Lumpini Park is Bangkok's largest central park, near Silom, with a lake, monitor lizards, and a much bigger footprint. Benchasiri Park is a compact single city block on Sukhumvit.
What are the sculptures in the park?
Twelve contemporary works by Thai artists, commissioned for Queen Sirikit's sixtieth birthday in 1992 — the reason the park is nicknamed the "Park of Sculptures."
