Camel Republic

Camels are not a Thai animal, which is exactly why Camel Republic — a Moroccan-themed park on Phetkasem Road behind Cha-am — draws families past the usual elephant-camp circuit. Gate admission is 200 THB for foreign adults (120 THB Thai), and the park is open most days but closed on Wednesdays.
Feeding, petting and supervised camel rides are the draw, and the animals are calm enough that even nervous first-timers relax within a few minutes. Beyond the camel paddocks, the park runs a small petting zoo alongside fairground attractions — bumper cars, a zip line, ATVs, a 4D cinema — so it plays as a half-day family stop rather than a single-animal encounter. Calves graze near their mothers in a separate enclosure, an easy photo stop, and staff working the paddocks are used to explaining how the herd is fed and kept.

- Getting there: 15-20 min drive from Cha-am centre, ~30-40 min from Hua Hin
Insider Tip: Go right at opening on a weekday — the camels are more active and less heat-stressed in the first hour, and the rides don’t yet have a queue. By early afternoon on weekends the ride lines get long and the animals are visibly more subdued in the heat.
Watch out: The 200/120 THB gate fee only covers entry and camel viewing/feeding — the rides, ATVs and 4D cinema are pay-per-activity, so a family of four doing several activities each can easily double the ticket cost. Budget for it before you arrive rather than at the ticket booth.
Early morning or the last two hours before closing bring the most comfortable temperatures and the most active camels; midday heat sends most of them into the shade. Bring sun protection and a change of clothes if anyone plans to ride, since the paddocks aren’t paved. The Moroccan-tiled café on site (Miffy’s Voyage) is a reasonable lunch stop and doubles as shade between activities, though it’s priced for the tourist crowd rather than local rates — treat it as convenience, not a food destination.
Combine the visit with Puek Tian Beach or Maruekhathaiyawan Palace for a fuller Cha-am day — both are a short drive back toward the coast. Full details and the Cha-am destination guide cover the rest of the area.
