Entry Free

Hug You Sheep Farm is a working sheep farm 15 kilometres outside Lampang in Ko Kha district, and one of the first sheep farms opened to tourists in northern Thailand. Entry is free; bags of feed pellets for the animals cost around 20 THB. It’s open daily from 8:30 AM to 7 PM.

The main draw is close contact with the flock — visitors buy feed at the entrance and hand-feed sheep that crowd right up to the fence line, with staff on hand to help kids do it safely. Beyond the sheep, the farm keeps goats, rabbits, ducks, small birds, and fish ponds, and runs pony rides for children. A café and restaurant on site serve lamb dishes — grilled and slow-cooked — alongside sheep-milk ice cream, a novelty most visitors haven’t tried elsewhere in Thailand. There’s a souvenir shop and a handful of photo-spot setups (fences, benches, a windmill) built for the Instagram crowd rather than working farm infrastructure.

Mornings are the better visit: the sheep are hungrier and more active before the midday heat, and the grounds are quieter before day-tripper groups and school outings arrive from late morning. By early afternoon on weekends the feeding areas can get crowded, with sheep mobbing whoever’s holding a feed bag.

Watch out: Some recent visitor reviews describe the sheep looking hungry or thin outside of active feeding times. Buy enough feed to make your visit worthwhile, but don’t expect a curated petting-zoo standard of animal care — this is a working farm, not a managed wildlife park, and conditions vary with the season and crowd size.

Insider Tip: Go on a weekday morning if you can. The animals are calmer, the photo spots are empty, and you’ll get more one-on-one time with the lambs than during a weekend rush.
