Koh Singto

Entry Free (boat hire extra)

Koh Singto — “Lion Island” — is a small lion-shaped limestone islet in the Gulf of Thailand, just off the Hua Hin coast. You don’t land on it: the rock is too small and steep. Instead, local longtail boats run out from Khao Takiab in about 15 to 20 minutes to circle the islet and snorkel the reef around its base. There’s no entry fee — you pay for the boat — and no facilities, so it’s a short half-day trip rather than an island day out.

What to do there

The draw is twofold: the silhouette and the snorkelling. The weathered limestone really does read as a crouching lion from certain angles, which is why it’s a fixture in Hua Hin coastal photos. Under the water, the reef around the base holds coral and reef fish — nothing on the scale of the Andaman islands, but a decent, easy snorkel close to the mainland. Boats usually idle while you get in the water, then loop the rock so you see it from all sides.

Insider Tip: Hire the boat at Khao Takiab fishing village rather than off the main beach — you’re closer to the islet, prices are more honest, and the fishermen know the safe lines around the rocks. Agree the total price and your time in the water up front.

Getting there and when to go

Koh Singto sits off the coast between Hua Hin and Pran Buri, part of the Prachuap Khiri Khan shoreline. Go early or late for calm, clear water and good light. The sea gets choppy in the southwest monsoon (roughly May–October), so check conditions before you commit to a longtail — it’s an exposed little crossing.

Watch out: There’s no shade and nowhere to land, so don’t plan a long day here. Bring water, sun cover and a dry bag, and don’t attempt to climb the slick rock.

Key Facts:
  • Free to see; you pay only for the longtail boat
  • ~15–20 minutes by boat from Khao Takiab
  • No landing — circle and snorkel around the base
  • Best in calm weather; exposed in the SW monsoon

Koh Singto lies off the coast at Nong Kae, Hua Hin, Prachuap Khiri Khan. View on Google Maps.
